Review Of “Evolve: The Rose Edition” Event

June 17, 2016

Bermuda Heroes Weekend unofficially kicked off last night with, Evolve: The Rose Edition – a grown folk sunset lime, which had guests wanting more.

For those who aren’t’ familiar with carnival vernacular, a lime is chill, relaxed experience with good drinks, good food and good people.

The event was held at a private home in Southampton overlooking the Jews Bay/Great Sound area. I arrived at 7pm and was welcomed with the special shot made of Grey Goose La Poire and lemonade – an excellent way to start a party.

A couple dozen people were there drinking, eating and enjoying the music. A lounge area with white leather couches was set up for those who wanted to relax and a food area was set up for those who came to eat.

A pasta station, carvery and a cheese and fruit plate station were set up for attendees to graze throughout the night. It was a really nice set up with delicious food provided by Wilks Catering with plenty of options.

While the sun was still in the sky, the event was relatively tame with people mainly talking and mingling amongst themselves. Once the sun set, the party started. DJs for the evening included DJ Chubb, Markie T, Back 2 Basics and Tony Cross.

The sets were primarily soca driven, because this is carnival. But, a nice reggae set was thrown in, which I’m sure was great for the non-soca fans who came to the party.

The highlight of the evening was a hula fire performance. The dancer performed to Destra Garcia’s “Lucy” and wowed the crowd with her moves and her ability to toss a fire covered hula hoop up in the sky and around her body. It was tons of fun and very entertaining.

Partygoers also got a celebrity appearance as Lyrikal, who will be performing at Five Star Friday tonight, was at the party.

Overall, Evolve was a great event. It was nice to have a party in Bermuda that started in the early evening and ended before midnight. It’s kind of a rarity for our island. Evolve was an opportunity to mingle and relax in a fun atmosphere before the madness that is carnival starts today! Thank you to the organisers for a superb event.
