Two families with young children who lost a parent at a young age are getting help as school starts this month.

Both the Cumbermack and Smith families will receive 100 per cent of the proceeds on the sale of the cocktail ‘Purple Promise’ at Rosa’s and Chopstix Fusion for the month of September.

Patrina Cumbermack is the widow of Jereme Cumbermack. He lost life in early 2015 in a motorcycle accident on Middle Road near Warwick Academy. He left behind his wife and three children.

Nakia Smith is the widower of Kamala Smith [the couple is pictured below] who lost her five-year battle to cancer a few months ago. She leaves behind a husband and two young children.

Chef Kara Simmons has created a cocktail called the “Purple Promise” which Goslings has donated the liquor for the drinks..

Lindsay Durham, manager for the Bermuda Restaurants Group, said, “This cocktail was inspired because Kamala loved purple and Patrina promised to keep her husband’s legacy alive through their children.

“We hope everyone can stop by in September to purchase a cocktail in honour of these parents promise to the spouse and children.”

More than $500 was raised on the first day the drinks were being sold and Ms Durham said, “Patrina has a young daughter still in nursery school so we’re hoping a lot of money will be raised. We’re trying to help pay their nursery fees.”

Patrina and Kamala graduated in 1999 together at the Berkeley Institute.

Ms. Durham added, “Remember it takes a village and these are families in our community. We will give 100% of the proceeds directly to these two families.”

Nakia Smith added, “It means a lot to our family that people are willing to help as this is and will be a day-to-day process. As you know I’m not one for words so I’m speechless, but thankful to Rosa’s and everyone that supports.”

They also can make the drinks virgin for those who don’t wish to drink, so all can support! Respice Finem!

Rosa’s is an amazing place to go. All they do to give back to the community. I am surprised I don’t see the OBA and PLP supporting this. I don’t see anyone else that continues to help other people month in and month out. Goslings you should be proud that you have tagged on to help. I agree with Ms. Durham it takes a village. I hope everyone goes out and continues to support Rosa’s and Chop Fusion as they give back. One day you never know they can be helping you or someone close to you.

Rosa’s and Chop Fusion Unsung Hero.

Mr. Bean and Mr. Dunkley I believe they should be recognized for all they do.

Great giving back but alcohol is a harmful drug and is way too socially acceptable despite the destruction it causes a food dish would be better.
