Aries Sports Center on the first floor at Windsor Place celebrated its first year of operation by giving back to the community, donating all of the proceeds from an event held today [July 28] to the Family Center.

The day’s activities saw local ‘celebrities’ take part in short boxing matches, with Nadanja Bailey, Jah Simmons, Lamont Marshall, Qian Dickerson, Tinee Furbert and Maria Duffy getting in the full-sized boxing ring. There were free sample classes all morning, facility tours, courtyard martial arts demonstrations [in partnership with Cafe 4], and the main boxing event.

The celebrity matches saw Nadanja Bailey go up against Jah Simmons with Bailey going down for the count more than once.

Lamont Marshall faced off with Qian Dickerson which saw neither fighter on the ropes as they displayed the ‘art’ of running in the ring. The pair took the opportunity to acknowledge the loss of a friend last night and send a message of “not supporting the violence in our community”.

MP Tinee Furbert was up against Maria Duffy, and according to some people present, the ladies put on the best boxing show of the three bouts.
