Police Motorcyclist Crashes Into Pedestrian

20190617_173344_resized[Updated] A “collision involving a police motorcyclist and a pedestrian occurred” on Burnaby Street in Hamilton today, the police have confirmed, with the pedestrian sustaining a leg injury while the police motorcyclist sustained abrasions.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 5:25pm Monday, June 17th a collision involving a police motorcyclist and a pedestrian occurred on Burnaby Street in the City of Hamilton.

“Early information suggests that the incident happened on the section of Burnaby Street between Reid Street and Church Street and that the pedestrian involved sustained a leg injury while the police motorcyclist sustained abrasions.

“An update on their medical conditions is anticipated in due course. The police motorcycle was also damaged. Traffic diversions are currently in effect while the scene is being processed.

“Any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

Update 9.46pm: The police said, “Traffic diversions were in effect for approximately two hours while the scene was processed.

“It now appears that the police motorcyclist involved was responding to a call for service when the collision occurred with a female pedestrian, believed to be an American visitor, who was attempting to cross Burnaby Street in the vicinity of DHL Express.

“Currently, she is understood to be receiving treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for a leg injury as well as suspected head injuries.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses are still encouraged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

    Presumably the police motorcyclist, being a trained rider and observer, is the best person to give a witness account?

    Does this have anything to do with the nearby construction site?

    So many pedestrians pass that area and there’s such poor safety measures in place.

    CCTV footage should help , due they pick up flashing lights , we have to wait until all the facts are in.
