Shaun Goater On Gold Cup: ‘Great Effort By All’

June 17, 2019

“Great effort by all and really good performances,” Shaun Goater said following Bermuda’s debut in the Gold Cup, adding the team can “work on our finishing and we can show the world our potential.”

The legendary footballer was supporting the team and providing some of his expert insight via Twitter during the match, starting off before the match by tweeting, “Come on Gombey Warriors! Wear that pink jersey with pride! We are always proud of you.”

He had words of praise for Bermuda’s captain Dante Leverock — who scored Bermuda’s first ever Gold Cup goal — and also acknowledged the excellent efforts by Bermuda’s goalkeeper, tweeting “another superb 1v1 save by Dale Eve”, adding later that “Dale Eve just won MOM for me with another great save.”

He praised other individual players as well, noting that [Willie] Clemons “has run himself to the ground and has played very well, a move by Reggie Lambe was “well played” and noted the “great assist” by Osagi Bascome.

Following the match, which Haiti won by a score of 2-1, Mr Goater added, “well done all, ice down and be ready for Costa Rica.”

Mr Goater also noted the Leverocks, saying, “What is it about the Leverocks in Bermuda? Dwayne Leverock makes one of the most fascinating catches in WC whilst representing Bermuda in 2007 and now Dante Leverock scores Bermuda’s first ever Gold Cup goal. Both are significant marks in our sporting history!”

  1. I'm just saying says:

Yes they need to work on their finishing and their fitness because they faded in the second half. But a great effort overall.
