Sussex To Assist Police In Pride Parade Planning

July 29, 2019

Two Bermuda Police Service [BPS] officers will attend Brighton’s Pride Parade in the UK this weekend to meet with Sussex Police who will assist the BPS in planning for Bermuda’s first Pride Parade.

A police spokesperson said, “The Commissioner of Police has revealed that two of his most experienced officers will attend Brighton’s Pride Parade in the UK this weekend.

“Regarded as one of the world’s biggest celebration events for LGBTQ communities, Superintendent Sean Field-Lament and Sergeant Brian MacNab will meet colleagues from Sussex Police to assist the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] in planning for Bermuda’s first Pride Parade at the end of August.

“The officers will also attend the event to speak with organisers and attendees to see first-hand how the Brighton event is run as well as get feedback on how Sussex Police work with their LGBTQ communities.

Commissioner of Police, Stephen Corbishley said: “Superintendent Field-Lament is the Gold Commander for Bermuda’s Pride Parade assisted by Sergeant MacNab as his tactical advisor.

“This is the first such parade in Bermuda and the indication is that there will be an extremely large public turnout in celebration, including overseas attendees, with potentially some small numbers who may also attend to express their objections.

“Therefore, taking that potential scenario into consideration, I am keen that the Gold Commander is supported by seeing best practice in the UK to ensure that Bermuda Pride takes place without incident and those who wish to celebrate can do so and enjoy the day.”

Why do they need to know how the event is run? They are not planning on running an event are they. I don’t see the value in attending one of the world’s largest events for information useful for our small venue. Surely they could have chosen somewhere more suitable with similar characteristics to our venue.

Now he needs to send them to get training for protest control.
      LMAO

    • Mark says:

And where might you suggest? Somewhere else where like Guyana where the Government has no record of support for its LGBT citizens?

    • PBanks says:

Jamaica Pride is this week I think. But I suppose Corbishley’s UK ties made Brighton show up more on his radar.

  2. Joe Bloggs says:

    Dear Commissioner Corbishley,

Please understand that the Bermuda government does NOT want equality for all. It is appealing to the Privy Council to enshrine discrimination against gays into our law. You are educating officers to enforce foreign laws that are contrary to the will of the PLP Government.

    • Question says:

Actually the PLP cannot do a thing to stop this, no matter how much borrowed taxpayer money they spend on it.

    • Mark says:

Why don’t you get a one way ticket and perch yourself over at the Privy Council? Maybe they’d love to hear from the ignorant sheep??

    • Wake up says:

Oh also dear Commissioner none of the last 3 leaders for the oba aka UBP opposition cared to give a hoot about the LGBT to give them their rights so both Governments are EQUAL.

  3. Hair says:

    Dear Joe,

There are people on this island other than the “PLP government!!!! Bring on de parade….

    • No says:

There are the majority of people on the Island that don’t want this! Stop catering to the few gays and their chums!

    • Wake up says:

Don’t forget to include your oba aka UBP with not helping.

    • Tony Brannon says:

There are well over 5000 supporters of Bermuda Pride. People are flying in to Bermuda for the event. Hollywood celebrities are in total support as is the co-founder of Stonewall UK Michael Cashman CBE. Hundreds of Bermuda businesses support Bermuda Pride. Bermuda Hotels are offering special rates (Hamilton Princess, Fairmont Southampton, Coco Reef. Bars and restaurants are putting on PRIDE SPECIALS including Flanagans, Astwood Arms, The Bird Cage, The Beach.
BERMUDA will be a RAINBOW. Come and “Feel the Love” on August 31st.

  4. Ouch says:

What a waste of money. Those in the parade are peaceful and those who do not want it have already stated they will stand on the side and watch or not even bother to attend. A clear waste of taxpayers money.Another zero for the Commissioner. He is falling into the same pattern we keep on seeing…..that is to say we have no money but we can find it for pet projects or joy riding trips. Sad
    Ouch.

    • Mike Hind says:

You do get that there have been death threats, right?

  5. Obviously, there are real fears.
YAWN….WHO PAYS FOR SUCH A PARADE??
What types of attractions will be in the parade?
What if such an event IS a flop??

  6. Vortex says:

For me this isn’t about whether you are gay (i am not). It’s about a free voice, its about saying no to prejudice and bigotry and its about love.

And love always wins. That’s why me and my young family will be there.

  7. La Verdad says:

    Complete waste of taxpayer money.
