So Far In July: Shooting Every 80 Hrs

July 10, 2010

The first 10 days of the month of July have seen a shooting incident approximately every 80 hours, all reported in the West End.

July 10th a man was shot in the leg on Soundview Road; July 7th there were Multiple shots fired in White Hill with no reported injuries; and on July 1st there was an attempted shooting of three men by two men on a bike by Store Lane.

In addition, the last two murders have occurred in the West End; the June 14th shooting murder of Freddy Maybury outside of Woody’s Restaurant on Malabar Road, and the May 28th shooting murder of Dekimo Martin in Peacock Crescent.

The 80 hour ratio that Bermuda has seen for the beginning of July pales in comparison to the 2010 Easter Weekend island-wide havoc which saw an average of a shooting approximately once every 14.5 hours. Four people were shot in only 58 hours [one fatally], plus a road fatality and a stabbing.

The 58 hr spree in April began with the broad daylight fatal shooting of Kimwandae Walker on the Friday afternoon, the Friday night death of Carlton “CJ” Darrell in a road traffic accident, Saturday incident free, early Sunday morning the shooting of Sean Williams and stabbing of another man in St George’s, and late Sunday night the shooting of Mikaela Outerbridge and Antione Tuzo at Dandy Town.
