Shots Fired In Sandys: No One Shot

The Police have confirmed that a gun was fired tonight [July 6] in the Sandys Parish area, however say no one was shot. The Police responded to a report of gun shots being fired in the area of White Hill and Georges Bay Road in Sandys at 9:40pm tonight. Police canvassed the area and say that they “ascertained that it was indeed a confirmed firearm incident”.

At this juncture, after checking with the hospital and canvassing the area, they say there are no reported injuries. There is a strong Police presence in the area [including a roadblock] and an investigation into this incident is underway. Police are appealing for anyone that may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact Police on 2950011 or call the confidential Crimestoppers at 800-8477.

The Sandy’s Parish area has experienced a recent surge of gun incidents lately, with the June 14th shooting murder of Freddy Maybury outside of Woody’s Restaurant on Malabar Road in Sandys, the May 28 shooting murder of Dekimo Martin in Peacock Crescent, Sandy’s Parish and the July 1st attempted shooting of three men by two men on a bike by Store Lane.

In addition, on May 5 the Boaz Island Shell gas station in Sandy’s was robbed at gunpoint, there were reports of gunshots on Cambridge Road in Sandy’s on March 22, gunshot reports in the Scotts Hill Sandy’s area on March 16 and reports on June 16th that a gun was fired on Honeysuckle Lane in Sandy’s.
