BOY FR CVR RGB JPG 442Hopefully, a new book, about to be launched on the Bermuda market, will give encouragement to a young child, with a physical disability, who is starting kindergarten in September in the United States.

A pre-publication sample of The Boy Without a Foot by local author/illustrator, J.K. Aspinall, caught the eye of the boy’s grandmother at the Craft Market in Dockyard in July while she was vacationing in Bermuda. Consequently, she ordered a copy over the new web site recently launched by the author.

“I want to help him to understand” the woman wrote of her grandson,” that his lack of fingers on the right hand is different from the other children but that he is really the same and he can and will do all that he has to do — just in a different way. I believe the book will help!!! ”

Ms. Aspinall said that she is thrilled that this book will fill a niche to help children with physical disabilities. She said she is waiting word from the Committee of 25 for Handicapped Children to accept her offer that a percentage of her direct sales go to the charity. “Originally, the text was written as a fairy tale, whimsical, entertaining, with talking animals in a magical setting outside of Bermuda, with little concentration it would be a healer.”

“I created the story line to escape from the Bermuda syndrome and to be able to offer something other than island theme stories to the international publishing market.”

Ms. Aspinall said she wrote the story years ago but did not submit it because she had wanted to do her own illustrations. With ten titles already on the market, she stated her ease of completing a title with artwork has increased, but it still took one year of off-and-on, part time illustrating to complete.

“My loyal customers, who have supported all my book ventures, will be amazed at the different artwork in this title.”

The book, available at Harbour Night, will soon be in retail book outlets, but an early copy is on its way to a child in New York.
