Results: 2010 Around the Island Boat Race
Jermaine Butterfield and Cleveland Maybury powered D18 to victory during the Bermuda Powerboat Association’s Round the Island Race held earlier today (Sept 12). S22 piloted by Andy Stoneham and Anthony Stoneham finished second and Tonka Simpson and Seth Chetty in FB55 finished third. The winners are pictured below in D-18 speeding through St. David`s.
The Stoneham’s clocked the fastest time of the day finishing in 37:31, but D18 given the D Class head start was able to make it around in 45:12 to win. The Stoneham’s futuristic looking boat, pictured below, drew plenty of crowd attention at Ferry Reach. (View more photos of the event here and here.)
Dorann Simons won the Jet Ski Class clocking a time of 40:05, fifty-five seconds ahead of second place finisher Vermonde Virgil who fell off the jet ski as he came out of Ferry Reach. Mr. Virgil spent almost two minutes in the water before being able to swim back to his ski and start his chase, however despite a valiant effort was not able to catch up.
