[Confirmed] Bermudian Fatally Shot in New York
[Updated] Since we are being asked about it by so many of our readers, we are addressing the reports of two Bermudians being shot in New York, with one being fatally wounded.
Despite our best efforts, at this point we are still unable to gain any form of official confirmation despite approaching numerous entities including local authorities, the British Consulate in New York and the New York Police Department.
As far as New York media reports readily available online, the only one which could possibly correlate is one from the New York Post, which says a two men were shot in Queens, with one gentleman tragically shot dead. Bermudians are beginning to post “RIP” messages on Facebook, using the nicknames of the persons reported to have been shot.
At this stage we cannot officially confirm any information, however wish to assure our readers we are making efforts to gain official clarification. We will update with any confirmed information if we are able.
Update 3:12pm: We have received unofficial, but highly credible, confirmation that this is true, one fatally wounded, and one is critically wounded.
Update 4:14pm: Local sources continue to confirm the report, as well as most all other local media now confirming. NY Post reports that yesterday “The victims, ages 28 and 30, were shot several times on 224th Street near 145th Avenue at about 4 p.m. Both were rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where the older man was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.” The NY report does not include names, however we understand the report does, sadly, involve Bermudians. The second man we understand to be born in Jamaica, however moved to Bermuda when he was young and married to a Bermudian. He is said to be seriously wounded.
The victim who suffered the fatal wounds is Vaughan “Bruggles” Allen [pictured]. Bernews extends our sincere sympathies to his family and friends.
