Driver Injured in St David’s Car Accident
(Updated) At approximately 11pm tonight [Jan 10] the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and Police attended a car accident in the St. Luke’s Lane, St. David’s area.
The car lost a front wheel and struck a wall, which appeared to render the driver unable to get out of the vehicle. Fire Department personnel worked for a few minutes to free the driver from the damaged car, and she was taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital via ambulance.
Area residents congregated around the accident scene watching emergency crews work, with some bystanders saying they heard a loud screeching sound, so came out to see what had occurred.
The wheel of the car was yards away from the vehicle itself.
At this time, we do not have any official information on the driver’s condition, however to our layman’s eyes the injuries did not appear life threatening. We will update with official information as able.
Update 3.00pm: Official Police statement:
Around 11pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on St. Luke’s Lane in St. George’s near the junction with Lighthouse Hill. It appears that a SUV was traveling along St. Luke’s Lane when the driver, a 45 year old St. George’s woman, lost control and collided with a wall. The St. George’s woman was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. It is anticipated that she will be flown overseas for further medical treatment. The SUV was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Stephen Allen on 295-0011.
