August 24, 2011

Acting Premier and Minister of Public Works Derrick Burgess today [Aug.24] expressed sincere condolences to the family of former Member of Parliament Walter Sinclair Brangman who died today.

Mr. Brangman, a well-known architect in Bermuda, was a Progressive Labour Party Member of Parliament for many years before he helped to create the National Liberal Party in 1985.

“My former colleague was very easy going and approachable and he always had a listening ear and a calm way about himself,” said Acting Premier Burgess.

“He served in the House during times that the Island was facing difficult economic, social and educational challenges. As one of Bermuda’s first black architects, his contributions to Bermudian society will always be remembered.”

Acting Premier Burgess added, “The Government of Bermuda conveys our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, Lovette, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage; and his three sons: Nalton, Remonde and Quemonde on the loss of their beloved husband and father. 10. Roger Sherratt says:

I was deeply saddened to read of the passing of Mr. Brangman while off the Island and send sincere condolences to his wife and family. In an age when we decry the lack of role models, Mr. Brangman has been an outstanding example of how to live life and be an example to others. He obtained his professional qualifications at a time when people of colour had major hurdles to overcome in order to prove their abilities. He was always so positive in every way, whether talking about his politics his country or his golf game! All those who were privileged to know him will mourne his loss but we are all better off for having Walter Brangman touch our lives. He will be sorely missed.
