[Updated with video] Over 30 boats in ten separate classes will take to the waters for the Bermuda Powerboat Association’s Round the Island Race today [Aug.14]. With the first class due to start at 1:55pm, Ferry Reach is hustling with activity as both drivers and spectators mill about readying for the afternoon’s race.

Spectator boats have started to pull in to the area, while on land vendors are setting up their various booths with offerings including hot dogs and snowballs. Crowds are starting to gather, while mechanics appear to be giving the racing boats a final check.

The course of the popular annual race normally encompasses the following areas; Ferry Reach, North Shore, Two Rock Passage, Hamilton Harbour, Granaway Deep, Port Royal Bay, Great Sound, Commissioner’s Point, Fort St. Catherine’s Point and St. David’s.
