Two Teens Charged: Resisting Arrest

September 23, 2011

Two young men, both the worse for drink, ended up being arrested, held overnight, then facing Senior Magistrate Archie Warner, charged with a mix of traffic and public order offences.

Eighteen year old student Rahkai Paul of Pembroke faced three charges. Riding a bike while under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, and using threatening words to Police. Paul’s pillion passenger, nineteen year old construction labourer Brian Batson, also of Pembroke, was charged with obstructing Police. Both men pleaded guilty.

The DPP’s evidence was that Police had seen the two men on a bike that was speeding along Front Street just after 2:30am on 21st September. Police gave chase and finally caught up with the pair at the Ice Queen in Paget.

Police stopped them and advised them of what Police had seen, and that Paul was to be checked for driving whilst impaired. At that point Paul and Batson began offering resistance. Both men were eventually subdued after Police had used Captor spray on them.

Whilst resisting being handcuffed, Paul told Police: “Remember you’ve got a life outside….” and “…consequences mean nothing to me.”

Batson was said to have placed himself between Police and paul in an attempt to prevent Police reaching Paul. During this time, Batson took up a fighting stance and told Police: “You want to fight me? You can’t f— with me cause I know my rights.”

After being tested at Hamilton Police Station, Paul was found to have 158mg alcohol in 100ml blood.

After convicting and fining Paul $1,000 for DUI, $500 for resisting arrest, and $500 for using threatening words to Police. Magistrate Warner asked him what he, a student, was doing out at 2:45am during a school week. Paul gave no answer.

On convicting Batson, who said that he had no memory of fighting the Police on that night, the Magistrate fined him $500.

Both men were given until 22nd October to settle their fines

Watch your mouth buddy – Rakhi’s mother was not a crap parent – and may she rest in peace.

No fine necessary: Public Administration of 9 lashes with the Cat-o-nine will suffice.

Guarantee you – no more problems with these two.

Not sure if you read but consequences mean nothing to him so a whopping would probably only fuel this boys hatred.

Cassy, the proof is in the pudding. When his backside receives the first of the nine lashes, I would put money down that the youngster would tearfully retract that boastful statement in record time. Every time thereafter he looked at the ‘reminders’ on his body, I doubt very strongly that he would want to have any more contact with a Cat-o-nine tails in addition to the public humiliation. It is time for our society not to be intimidated with cheap talk.
