Artist Dublin Explores Bermuda’s Landscapes
Grenada-born Bermuda artist Frank Dublin explores the island’s rural scenery with his characteristic eye for small but telling details in an upcoming Hamilton show.
Mr. Dublin’s exhibit “ Rural Icons and Abstractions” — which will also feature recent work by Bermudian painter and photographer — opens at the Common Ground Café in Chancery Lane on December 1.
“Spittal Pond Nature Preserve is one of the most inspirational spaces in Bermuda,” said Mr. Dublin.
“Having been raised in an agricultural environment in Grenada, I have always admired the beauty of nature and have great respect for the land.
“I often find myself drawn to Spital Pond for a jog or a walk in commune with nature. There is peace and comfort in being surrounded by wetlands, cow pens and crashing waves on the rocky shoreline.”
Any time of day offers new inspirations, continued Mr. Dublin, particularly in terms of the quality of light.
“I have great respect and appreciation for the efforts it takes to maintain its agricultural integrity,” he said. “I often find many families, especially children enjoying all that Spital Pond has to offer.
Aside from Spittal Pond, “Rural Icons” encompasses landscapes by Mr. Dublin of Black Watch Pass, farm lands and golf courses.
Curator Susan A. Pearson of Select Palette Art said all Bermuda art Enthusiasts are welcome to Opening Night next Thursday [Dec. 1] from 5:30-7pm.
