Ex-Premier To Speak At Jamaica Alma Mater

November 21, 2011

Former Bermuda Premier Dr. Ewart Brown will be the guest speaker at his Jamaica alma mater’s prize-giving ceremony this week.

A 1964 graduate of the historic St. Jago High School in Spanish Town, he will be speaking to students on Thursday [Nov. 24].

” It is an honour to be invited back to St. Jago on this auspicious occasion,” said Dr. Brown. “I had a full experience there as a student-athlete and if I can give anything back to the school it is always my pleasure to do so.”

Sandra Sawyer-Watson, St Jago principal, who personally invited Dr. Brown, is confident that the former Premier will inspire her students to excel.

Founded in 1744, St. Jago is one of the oldest, continuously operated schools in the Western Hemisphere.

It is renowned for graduating some of Jamaica’s senior military officers, world class cricketers, academic scholars, performing artists and Olympic athletes.

Alumni include former Jamaica Prime Minister Norman Manley, playwright and screenwriter Trevor Rhone [who co-authored the classic Jimmy Cliff movie "The Harder They Come"] , Olympic gold medallist Melaine Walker and acclaimed tenor Orville Manning.
