Ex-Bermuda Firm Creates Irish Jobs
US multinational management consultants Accenture — which recently moved its corporate headquarters from Bermuda to Dublin — is to create 100 new technology jobs in Ireland.
The positions are aimed at both graduates and those with industry experience and will be based around the country.
These jobs are on top of an earlier four-year programme to recruit 100 staff announced in November at a research and innovation centre it was establishing.
The company already employs more than 1,300 people in Ireland. Accenture — which other businesses look to for management, technology services and outsourcing — has a global workforce of more than 240,000.
Its international client list includes a majority of Fortune 500 companies, and in Ireland it works with Microsoft, Kerry Group and the Revenue Commissioners among others.
Accenture announced on May 26, 2009 that its board of directors unanimously approved changing the company’s place of incorporation to Ireland from Bermuda and would become Accenture plc.
The company cited several reasons for the change: Ireland’s sophisticated, well-developed corporate, legal and regulatory environment; Ireland’s long history of international investment and long-established commercial relationships, trade agreements and tax treaties with European Union member states, the United States and other countries where Accenture does business; and Ireland’s stable political and economic environment with the financial and legal infrastructure to meet Accenture’s needs
The change was approved and became effective on September 1, 2009, the beginning of the company’s 2010 fiscal year.
The company will also try to facilitate those working for it abroad to return home.
It is also looking at drawing from a partnership it is involved with to assist those who are long-term unemployed gain IT skills.
