Premier Meets ‘Youth With A Mission’

January 20, 2012

Yesterday [Jan.19] Premier Paula Cox officially met and welcomed to Bermuda representatives of the ‘Youth With A Mission’ [YWAM] International Christian Youth Organization at the Cabinet Office, Hamilton, Bermuda.

Led by their Bermudian organizer Ms. Anna Franklin and their local host, Mrs. Joan Simmons, the YWAM representatives, Joseph Allen- Palacios, Tracy Ann Martindale and William Friederich of the US, Deanna Gleeson of Ontario, Canada and Pouya Heidari of the United Kindom, introduced themselves, shared words of encouragement and Ms. Franklin offered a prayer of thanksgiving and praise.

The Premier asked the group what they had encountered as they ministered in churches and out among the people street by street.

Ms. Franklin replied, “As a Bermudian, I have enjoyed returning home and experiencing my country in a different light from when I left. I know what being a student and young person in Bermuda feels like and that experience has aided me in my christian walk and has made the return all the more worthwhile.

“We are an organization with dozens of students travelling worldwide bringing the word of God to all we meet. We have appreciated assisting Mr. Nicholas Dill with his feeding programme and youth group, ‘Young Life’.

She continued, “I believe Christianity is not just about four walls. It’s much more active than that. We have met people on the street who have been happy to share their testimonies. I am 21-years-old and our generation can change the world and it is rewarding seeing our efforts make a difference in lives.”

Youth With A Mission is an international volunteer movement of Christians from many backgrounds, cultures and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. When YWAM began in 1960, their main focus was giving young people opportunities to demonstrate the love of Jesus to the whole world.

Today, they still focus on youth, but have members [known as “YWAMers”] of almost every age. They are currently operating in more than 1000 locations in over 180 countries, with a staff of over 18,000.

During their visit to the Cabinet Office, Mr. Pouya Heidari, on behalf of the group, presented the Premier with a copy of Patrick Sookhdeo’s book, ‘Understanding Shari’a Finance: The Muslim Challenge to Western Economics’.
