Cricket: Bermuda Lose To Netherlands

Bermuda lost their third consecutive cricket game in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier today [Mar.15] in the United Arab Emirates, being defeated by the Netherlands. Final score: Netherlands 125/9 Bermuda 121/8

For the third game in a row, David Hemp won the toss, however this time around Bermuda decided to field first. Bermuda restricted the Netherlands to 125/9 in their allotted 20 overs, Michael Swart was their top scorer with 53, while his opening partner Stephan Myburgh added 20.

Dion Stovell good start to the tour continued with the ball as he led the bowling attack with 4-0-14-2, while Kamau Leverock bowled 3-0-28-2, Justin Pitcher, Janeiro Tucker, Rodney Trott and Joshua Gilbert all took a wicket each.

In reply Bermuda came up five runs short of victory, scoring 121/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Bermuda required 14 runs off the last over but could only manage 9. Stephen Outerbridge the top scorer with 34 not out, Tucker was the next high man with 20, while Trott batting in the number ten spot scored 18 runs from 7 deliveries. Lionel Cann added 15 and Stovell scored 13. Timm van der Gugten led The Netherlands bowling attack with figures of 4.0-0-22-4.

      It is the national sport bodies and clubs that should be shouldering primary reponsibility for the development of their sports, not the school curriculums.
