Cricket Coach Pulled After Disciplinary Action

June 27, 2012

The Bermuda Cricket Board has decided that in the light of Andre Manders’ actions during the Western Stars v Flatts abandoned game on May 6th, “it is not appropriate for him to serve as Head Coach for the Under 18 on the upcoming ICC tournament.”

Yesterday the BCB announced the U/18 squad for the ICC Americas U18 Match Play Tournament, which will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from July 9 – 14, 2012.

“Full consideration was given to the mitigating factor of Manders’ exemplary record over 25 years in cricket and his many valued years of service to the National Academy programs,” said a statement from the BCB.

BCB President Lloyd Fray, who met with Mr Manders to discuss this matter, said, “The Bermuda Cricket Board is very appreciative of the valuable hours and commitment that Manders contributes to our Under 19 program.

“Manders has accepted the decision and has confirmed to me that he is keen to continue in the capacity as Head Coach of the Under 19 Academy squad. I look forward to his involvement and direction in our youth development program as we continue to prepare our U19 squad for the ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier next year.”

In the game Stars v Flatts on May 6, Mr Manders was found guilty of conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game, and issued an official reprimand.

I think that the discipline given Hurdle and Edness was disproportionately given especially since Manders and h is son Tre initiated the action.
