Jury Sworn In For Gariko Benjamin Trial

The trial of a 21-year-old man who is alleged to have fired a gun in a Pembroke neighborhood and then escaped on a motocross bike sparking a police chase to Somerset got underway in Supreme Court this morning [June 13], with the jury being sworn in.

Gariko Benjamin, of Sandys, denies the charges which include unlawful possession of a firearm; unlawful discharge of a firearm; taking a motorcycle without the owner’s permission and threatening behaviour to Police.

The shooting Mr Benjamin is charged with occurred at around 10:30am on January 25th 2012 in the Mount Hill/ Overview Hill area in Pembroke. No one was injured, however the suspect[s] stole a blue motocross cycle from the scene and fled in a westerly direction with police in pursuit.

The trial is expected to continue this afternoon.
