20-Yr-Old Man Arrested After Shooting

January 25, 2012

[Updated – At 10.30am shots were fired in the Mount Hill, Pembroke area. The suspects stole a blue motocross cycle and headed to Somerset while multiple police vehicles pursued them through the western parishes at high speeds.

Schools in the West End were temporarily placed under a police-imposed lock down. A 20-year-old Sandys parish man has been arrested in connection with this incident]

A short while ago this morning [Jan.25] police attended the Mount Hill area in Pembroke responding to what we unofficially understand may have been a firearm incident.

At this time, the police are in the area and crime scene tape is visible. There are at least four marked and unmarked vehicles, and multiple officers.

The area they blocked off is the same area from previous firearm incidents, and we were asked not to take photos. Unofficial reports indicate that no one was injured, however we will update with additional information as able.

Update 11.10am: Unofficial reports indicate the police are chasing the suspects all the way to Somerset. Numerous reports indicate that massive amounts of cars and sirens were heard in Paget, Warwick, Southampton and Somerset – with unofficial reports of a dozen or more police vehicles speeding towards the west.

Update 11.22am: Police confirmed there was a shooting at 10.30am in the Mount Hill area, and said there were no injuries. They also confirmed that the Police chased the suspects in a westerly direction.

Update 11.25am: The suspect[s] stole a motocross cycle and headed west with the police in pursuit.

Update 11.31am: Due to reports received that Somerset Primary School is on “lockdown”, we confirmed with school officials that all the staff and students are fine. An Education Ministry Spokesperson said, “The Ministry takes its lead from the Police and they have advised, and we are following, to keep students in school until they advise further.”

Update 12.02pm: The police confirmed that there were shots fired around 10:30am today in the Mount Hill, Pembroke area. No one was injured; however the suspects stole a blue motocross cycle and fled while the police pursued them into the western parishes.

Police Spokesperson Robin Simmons:

Update 12.04pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:30am on Wednesday, January 25th police responded to a report of gunshots in the Mount Hill, Pembroke area.

“No one was injured; however the suspects stole a blue motocross cycle from the scene and fled, heading in a westerly direction.

“Police pursued the suspects into the western parishes and are appealing for any witnesses, anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Mount Hill area or anyone with any information to contact the main police number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”

Update 12.05pm: Police continue to maintain a heavy presence in Sandys parish

Update 1.58pm: An Education Ministry Spokesperson said, “In response to this morning’s incident regarding western schools, please note that the Ministry of Education has confirmed that all schools in the West End, affected this morning by a Police imposed lock down, are now operating normally.”

Update 5.10pm: The police declined to comment when asked whether a suspect has been arrested or not.

Update 5.50pm: The police confirm a 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident.

They also said Detectives are interested in speaking to witnesses, including those who saw the rider of a scrambler motorcycle travelling west on Middle Road from Devonshire, Paget, Warwick, Southampton and Sandys parish between 10:15am and 11:30am today. The full police statement is below:

A 20 year old Sandys parish man has been arrested in connection with the earlier reported shooting incident in the Mount Hill, Overview Hill Pembroke area and the stolen motocross cycle has been recovered.

Out of an abundance of caution, schools in the Somerset area were advised to keep their students inside during the police pursuit of the stolen motorcycle, but those schools shortly returned to normal operation.

Detectives are eager to speak with anyone that saw:-

  • Two males on a scooter type motorcycle in the Mount Hill area of Pembroke entering Mount Hill from the Berkeley Road side. These males were wearing dark coloured clothing, and also wore black or dark coloured helmets at about 10:00am;
  • The rider of a scrambler type motorcycle travelling west on Middle Road from Devonshire, Paget, Warwick, Southampton & Sandys parish and more specifically in the Somerset area between 10:15am & 11:30am Wednesday, January 25th.

Inquiries are ongoing into this non-injury shooting and detectives are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1079 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

    …right on time!!

    • all clogged up says:

All that fire power and they couldn’t catch them! Persuit trained officers on 750CC motorcycles and 350cc scramblers and couldn’t catch up with a pair of hooligans riding a 125cc FRUSTRATING!

      • walls says:

There was a guy racing around on a blue motocross bike along St Johns road maybe a month or two ago. Wonder if it was the same bike, though it seemed more like a 80cc one.

        • Bob the builder says:

Remember it’s not the size but how u use it lol. Thank god for the INCOMPETANCE of the BERMUDA POLICE. Live long and prosper gangs of Bermuda. UBP created us and PLP fed us

          • Gotcha says:

your days of freedom are coming to an end!

          • Lisa says:

Umm ya so when did Bermudians acquire guns and when did gangs start? Haven’t lived there since 1985 know that was a long time ago but damn things have changed for sure :/

      • Logic76 says:

The police KTM bikes aren’t used on regular patrol. Officers who are qualified to ride them are tasked from various units in the BPS when intel suggests they will be needed. All officers with the neccesary advanced license to drive both motorcycles have been trained to ensure the safety of themselves and the public. Bermuda’s roads are very technical and dangerous when riding at speed.

    • Shorta ranks says:

The hooligans are in charge of the country.
sir down and listen to them:
“I have been abused hence I have to pick up a gun:
I had my 10th birthday party at Southampton Princess
I had 12 trips by the time I was 11
I never had a summer job
I told off my mom at age 7 and after that she never corrected me
I don’t know who my dad is because I have 4 brothers and sisters and we all have different fathers
I never paid attention in school…it just wasn’t for me
Now all the foreigners have the jobs
I have nothing to do so I picked up a gun

      • united says:

Pretty good. You have described today’s society, not only in Bermuda but world wide. We all got spanked when needed, today, we can’t touch our little darlings because we will hurt their feelings and their egos. Now world deal with the mess.

  2. Chris says:

I am so sick of these cowards!

  3. WTH???? says:

Quick question how is this right on time? are you serious right now?

    • Smh says:

I believe they meant “right on time” because they’re in the process of catchin the suspect. “chasing”

    • STAiNED_PARADiSE says:

What i mean by “right on time” is this…just yesterday a LOCAL/BERMUDIAN artist released a song/video entitled “Stained Paradise” which fully relates/describes the state that our “Paradise” is in….not even 24hrs later, look at the news! Everyone should go watch and listen to this record and join the movement! Let’s take back our once safe and friendly Bermudian Paradise!

      • STAiNED_PARADiSE says:

forgot to post the link for the song/video. Here u go peeps!!

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSYViGjoSWo

        • Voice of Reason says:

Take back our Paradise by promoting violence against the government.. That’ll work well.

          • Yo! says:

It’s REALITY Voice of REASON!! Don’t get offended !! look at the PICTURE!! whats that Police Bikes Parked up after a GUN MAN jus pulled Chase from Pembroke to Somerset??

Come on man. Snap out of it and GEt WITH IT!!!

Let the Truth be told to all !!!!

          • ya says:

Voice of reason, you missed the whole point of the video. Burn down the government… ok, maybe not the best way to get the message across, but what he raps about is exactly what is happening on this rock. We as Bermudians like to bury our heads in the sand and pretend everything is ok, but things are not ok, we as a whole society are sinking fast.

            • Bryan says:

              That’s right!

            • Voice of Reason says:

Ya, I agree with 95% of the Video. I just don’t think that promoting violence makes sense.

I agree its a community issue, and a powerful and well done video with talented Bermudians, however I think the message could have been relayed without calling for violence.

Its also a nice tune so congrats to whoever did it.

        • Stained PARADISE says:

Nowadays Aint the same things change , Open up the Newspaper As I read the Page Another POLICE BRUTALITY YEAH BEATEN up the WEAK while they REACHING for the SALARIES. All I see is TORTURE, Turmoil, & PAIN THE GOVERNMENT [EDITED] FORTUNES For THEIR GAIN. ,

BIGG UP FATS !!!!!!!! TELL EM ! TELL EM !!!!!! TELL EM WHOS to blame for this Stained Paradise called BERMUDA!!!

          REST IN PEACE JAMES

        • OK! says:

I like it – Strained Paradise!
Now can we talk about something positive :) What’s the weekend looking like :D

        • i really like this song and so true to whats going on in bermy right now,i hope its hits a big one.

        • Tommy Chong says:

Don’t understand this song. I understand the lyrics but can’t understand why whine about police brutality & in the same breath ask gang violence to stop. What police brutality is this guy on about? People being stopped for ipod use aren’t exactly Rodney King or maybe the guys who got zapped for not stopping their brawl when the police told them to. IMO the police need to be a tad more brutal & fight fire with fire. These gangster wannabes thrive on fear so the fear must be brought back 360 by BPS. Aside from that I see one individual in the video who in the past not sure if still does has founded gang activity. You don’t get a mouth full of gold grills from sweeping streets.

          • Tommy Chong says:

My bad on the spelling mistake I meant funded not founded. The guys a bit too light to have founded any BDA gang.

          • Stained_Paradise says:

            Dear Mr. Chong,

I happen to have a GOLD GRILL Bottom and Tops !! 10k Gold Priced at only $650.00, This doesn’t make me a Gangsta.. Your acting like these grills cost loot. and on top I don’t even deal with criminal activity . Your sounding like a typical close minded Bermudian who is trying to put down something positive.!! Thanks to your comment I bet it brought more attention to the SONG. THANKS ALOT!!

            Signed,
            Bermudian

        • bdananny says:

many songs out there posting the same message but we cant promote fixing the problem with more violence…..

          • Tommy Chong says:

I don’t agree with public violence as a solution to curb gang violence as its just the same tit for tat at present. On the other hand BPS are too polite when they catch these guys. If you go along quietly thats one thing but many try to resist & curse at the officer those actions need to be curbed with force in front of the public. There used to be a Bermudian saying that if you did something wrong as a child you got a cut tail all the way home from neighbors & then another when you stepped in your house. This may seem harsh to other nations but those who deem themselves more politically correct have had gang violence issues for many decades where as ours have started only in the past decade. This past decade of gang violence has build up along side our quest for political correctness. Our modern politically correct approach of the right raising my child as I see fit so mind your business has spawned young adults who have zero regard for authority figures. Our old village raises a child mentality had stood the test of time & kept the old white wall & front line gangs at bay. This is Bermuda’s weakness to believe that foreigners always know better because they’re nations bigger so we should strive to be like them. Bermuda used to be another world till we started to believe the hype & turned into a western sequel.

        • bdananny says:

there are many songs out there promoting the same message BUT violence against a govt or other is not the answer..yes he speaks the truth but that truth has been known for years…..

  4. need work says:

If ppl had jobs it’ll be less time 2 plan n carry out shootings! Idle time is part of de problem

  7. CAT says:

How the hell they make it from Pembroke to Somerset!!!!

    • Well I Never says:

How? Its called a Motocross Bike and a good rider..easy to evade!

      • CAT says:

Yes How??? Call for effin back up coming in/from all directions!!! Run them off the bike! Time to be Hard on these punks!

        • all clogged up says:

Box Head Foggo, Lindo, Shina or Boar Paynter wudda caught em.

          • cygnet says:

@ all clooged up. You have mentioned the great riders!!! For sure they would have been caught and laying on the ground calling forr there mamas and crying like babies.

            • bDaRaCeHeAd says:

Boxhead, Lindo, Shina, or Boar never had to chase the Cook brothers from St.Geo/ St.D either……also back then it was easy to run down somebody on a 500 when they only have a 5 horsepower 100cc. that being said I bet the offending party doesn’t races bike down at s southside either

              • wallawalla says:

Lol wow…talk about a blast from the past. Boxhead and the boys on those police bikes were crazy. Fair but crazy. Getting away from them was almost impossible. I remember them chasing a friend on a cb100 down steps on that monster of a police bike and caught him.

            • SMFH says:

HIS CREW IS SOFT! SEEN THEM HIT DE DIRT NUFF TIMES!! GUYS PULL CHASE FOR FUN!!! ITS OBVIOUS THE POLICE CANT RIDE!!! ALL DAT POWER THEY SIT ON AND DONT KNOW HOW TO USE THEM!! JUS LIKE THEY AFRAID TO USE THE GUNS ON THERE HIPS!

              • bDaRaCeHeAd says:

I guess I shouldn’t bring up the fact Boxhead wrote off like 10th bikes in his time too…..

                • all clogged up says:

He wrote of 10 bikes….he should be in a wheel chair by now but I saw him taking a ride around St. Davids a few months ago on his rambler…..looks out of place not seeing him on a Ghost.

                  • Pro police says:

One thing we have to remember the traffic back then was not as heavy as it is now. Frig people don’t watch the roads as it is. So how can a well trained officer on a heavy bike catch someone who does not have any care in the world and don’t have a family to think about. Wow box head days the trains were still running when he was on the service. People please be realistic . We have a gun man on a motorcross cycle and unarmed police patrolling the streets who has the upper hand. Um ya Good work officers keep it up. You have no support from the cummnity but you have my vote any time.

    • Can't Take It Anymore says:

There is nothing that supports that they made it to Somerset actually. Though the opening statement is tha tthe chase wen to Somerset. But at 12:02 it says they were headed in a westernly direction. That dude probably ducked off in Warwick or somewhere like that. BPS have no clue!!!

      • yoyo says:

Why don’t you go and join the BPS and show them how it’s done then?

        • all clogged up says:

ain’t no real cops there anymore

        • Can't Take It Anymore says:

Tried before and was turned down. No previous convictions either. Comment now!!

      • WTH???? says:

Trust me he made it pass warwick cause ive heard he had the whole strech of warwick sec gap in front of the police he made it somerset trust.

  8. FED UP BLACK says:

    unbelievable!!

  9. Jefffrey says:

    dis guys a beastttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Twanae says:

This is so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wth is with these fools

  11. Quick ? says:

Where are the police from Somerset? Could they not cut off the suspects ? The suspects should have not been able to get across Somerset Bridge. I hope they caught these idiots.

    • Mushroom says:

It takes at least 20 mins from town to Somerset (on a good day) even if they were going like bats out of hell up the country (lets say 10 mins, maybe 5 even) Once the police realised they were heading west, isn’t 10/5 mins enough time to get from Somerset police station to the bridge? I’m sure people would rather be inconvienced and see these idiots apprehended at the bridge than have our children on lockdown in thier school because they are still at large in the area?

  12. SMH says:

    What is with these fools!

    • Bs24 says:

If he was in American they would have shot him first and asked questions later. Of course they don’t have to kill him… You might need him to talk later but he definitely shouldn’t have made it out of town. Armed and dangerous, I wonder if they thought about that and the safety of others while they was chasing. Smh

  13. LAWS says:

    BPS IS A F%&KING JOKE!!!!!

    • Well I Never says:

YOU ARE A F#$CKING JOKE! IDIOTs always blame the wrong people…

      • To many issues says:

How is he a JOKE??? BPS are CLEARLY the joke here. Of course the crime itself is a problem but explain how one bike is “allowed” to travel through 4 parishes and into a 5th without being cought??? HELLO….. at Barnes Corner, there is NO WAY TO GET PAST!!! lets not talk about Somerset Bridge…. who sounds like the JOKE????

      • WTH???? says:

how are we blaming the wrong people??? the police could have set up a road block at barners corner how does one person on a bike make it from town all the way to somerset??? where were the police that are in somerset?? and then hearing that the person on the bike had a 50 ft gap infront of the police that was chasing him, your gonna tell me the polie from up the country couldnt stop him really?????

        • LAWS says:

well i never u must live under a rock u dont whatch cops real sh&t. BPS IS A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Pastor Syl says:

To all of you! First you have to know where the suspect is going before you set up a road block. YOu may know he is heading west, but there are myriad turn-offs and tribe roads between town and Somerset, any one of which could be taken by someone on a bike, especially one who is a skilled rider and even more especially if that rider has no concern for his life or anyone else’s. IF the police made a 3rd lane in their chase, cutting between cars, riding on the inside and not caring about the oncoming traffic like the hooligans I see on our streets daily, maybe they might have caught the suspects, but how many cars and lives might they have endangered in the process. There is a very fine line the BPS must draw, and it seems to me, which ever way they go, there are some who will not be appreciative of their work.

            • To many issues says:

i only have ONE word for you…. RADIOS!! If indeed he makes that far (which he clearly did), i’m sure you can radio ahead to a specific location and tell fellow officers to block the road. If he doesn’t make it that far than at least you have narrowed the area down. It is nothing to be appreciative about it when a NON-copper can think quiet sensibly…. and NO i will NEVER be a cop!!

  14. Guy Carri says:

Don’t chase em. Run em right over!!!

  15. bE 4 rEaL says:

WTH…….is goin on in this island

  16. Waiting says:

hurry up and install the cameras on the Somerset Bridge.

    • LAWS says:

      they their already…

    • Chart says:

How many prosecutions have there been with camera evidence?

    • Reddy says:

+hurry up and install the cameras on the Somerset Bridge.+

You must have not noticed what’s become of the ‘light pole’ at the Middle Rd South Shore junction near Barnes’ Corner (in the little triangle at the junction)

Wow … more technology and cameras there than at Fort Knox

        • SMFH says:

          • Pastor Syl says:

For those who don’t recognize it, Concerned Bermudian is using something I was told was called bb-text, a form of shorthand used by cellphone users who try to save time (and their thumbs) while conveying the gist of their thought. Spelling and grammar aren’t as important as getting the message across….Just showing off my new-found knowledge and hopefully, reducing some of the ire I see from those who notice what appear to be spelling errors.

      • concerned bermudian says:

Lol big up your educated word “delinquent” and for your info I was talking like I was bbm or something. You still knew what I was talking bout. Ya low life. I got paper didn’t need your 2cents.. >:o

    • Not Again! says:

What are you trying to say? What does cups in your house got to do with any of this. The local police aren’t doing anything because half of them are either related to or know these punks that’s why it is important to have overseas police working in Bda. Duh!!!! Think about it you twit!!!!!

    • Big D says:

This is so funny blame the FOREIGNERS………really……it is time for us as Bermudians to accept the society we have created and take steps to correct our ,mistakes.

    BPS pick up ya game..

    • Bermudians jus Talk says:

HaHaHaHaHahaH!!!!They made it that far let him go

      • Not Again! says:

That’s intelligent. With that type of attitude it’s no wonder Bda is in the state we are in.

    • Big D says:

You are doing more destruction in our country than these hooligans by posting these silly commments. Concerned Bermudian …… I think not.

  19. Jow says:

If they chased them from town and we have a police station up somerset……this should be a no brainer!!! BPS don’t Eff around please Exactly where are the somerset police? Hmmmm

  22. Leslie Swan says:

If indeed the report ic accurate that the suspects where able to get from Mount Hill to Somerset……..shame on our Police Service

    • mixitup says:

It takes me longer to get from Mount Hill to Paget than it took this guy to get to Somerset. Lawd a mercy!

    • Pro police says:

I cannot believe the ignorance of Bermudians. All of you have no idea what your talking about. How do we know what really happen. I’m sure the officers had no idea where this cycle was going and how far he was traveling. We need to stop assuming and get the story of what really happen. Funny we always so quick criticize before getting the facts. Guess what Bermuda we can play a role in this too. How many of us have seen something suspicious and no pt report it. See we are just as guilty as the next. The Bermuda police have a tough job and our stupid comments and lack of help isn’t doing any good. So if nothing helpful to say shut the hell up.

  23. they dont know says:

BPS is just shxt! how are they going to catch some one when all they know are main roads because most of them aren’t even from this island they don’t know none of the ins and outs of bermuda at all

  24. Terry says:

That was the sole purpose of the motorcross bike.

    Go where no man can……

    Peace.

  25. Still Trying to get it Right says:

OK BERMUDA POLICE SERVICE you have everyone’s permission to FORGET about all of the OTHER (I’m sure mostly law-abiding citizens) drivers on the road. You should have not cared a rat’s ass about them and persued this fool with such wreckless abandonment as necessary. Please note readers I’m being sarcastic.

Are you serious? Do you people even think before you write your senseless BS on these sites. At SOME POINT logic has to prevail. And considering there seems to be so many of you that now how to do the Bermuda Police Service’s job, I suggest you use WRECKLESS ABANDONEMENT and get your asses to the station and fill out an application.

    SMDH!

    • yoyo says:

      agreed.

    • csmith says:

THANK YOU !!!! DAM your the only one who makes any sense here!!! Somerset Station or no police officers are not sitting in the station waiting for something to happen! They could have been out of Sandy’s period!!! And if the police would have drove wreckless u all would have been complaining about how the police were driving! Not noting they are chasing a gunman. If you all know how to do police work so well then yes sign up!

      • Can't Take It Anymore says:

Tried to sign up before and was turned down. No previous convictions either. And yes I do know how the police work!! Bunch of jackasses!!
Come on csmith, get a clue here!!!

    • Can't Take It Anymore says:

Come on, you’ve got to admit, a chase all the way through 5 parishes??? And gets away?? BPS should have used the same tactics applied a few years ago in the chase of that Subaru from Town down the country by laying that belt with nails on the ground tp pop the tires.

    • Big D says:

Agreed at last a sensible comment about the police pursuit if there was actually one.

  26. Joke says:

Come on BPS why wasn’t there any road blocks set up or something it is no way that they should have made it all the way up to Somerset

  27. smh says:

All the way somerset? Really? What were those police bikes doing in that picture? Posing for the camera? You all need to do something for once. Those police bikes are way faster than anything on the streets. I don’t see how the chase lasted so long.

  28. Maria Jacobs says:

I am sick and tired. How the hell do you chase a bike, scrambler or not all that way and lose it. All those fancy police bikes, what a joke!!!

  29. yoyo says:

um hello, they got the guy. And ‘foreign’ police are used to driving at higher speeds – probably have more experience than local cops!

    • Andrew says:

      Did they get the shooter?

      • yoyo says:

I just heard on the radio they had cornered the suspect…

        • Family Man says:

Awesome. Now shoot the SOB and save us the cost of a trial.

    • all clogged up says:

ya foreign cops can drive at highspeed on M3 in a str8 line, but the roads in BDA are a lot harder then they are….that’s why 70s pack racers turned COP were the best riders BPS every had, never again

      • SMFH says:

F COLLIN PAYNTER N DE REST OF THEM THEY NEVER CAUGHT ME N IVE SEEN DEM ALL DOWN DE EASTERN TRACKS AREA! AND ALL OF THEM 70′S PAC RACERS FAILED!!! 1987 ALL DAY!

        • all clogged up says:

ya and I bet you neva can get a 50cc moby to hit 70mph….BELT BURNER 4 LIFE!

  30. Sooo says:

It’s not even worth commenting on !!!

  31. GPS says:

Instead of locking these mental-retarded gangbaggers up, just send them to MAWI….it’s quite obvious there are mental issues….West Gate isn’t designed to deal with the Mental Retarded…Just Saying

    • BABS says:

Is anyone reading correctly???? The report states that the suspects STOLE a motorcycle from the scene. Meaning they didn’t go Mount Hill on that bike. They STOLE it from the scene.

  32. smh says:

Yoyo foreign police do not have more experience. They don’t know the roads like bermudians do. They come here take a slight test and all of a sudden they can drive?

    • yoyo says:

lol- not true! How about this: I know for a fact that at one point in time, there were only two qualified drivers on call in a certain area because none of the local cops on call had passed their test! The cops were from the UK.

  33. Open Somerset bridge up next time. SPLAT.

    • Larry & Darrell i want to shake your hand, that is absolute genius!!

      • Family Man says:

Unfortunately they sealed it shut some years ago. It doesn’t open anymore.
Would have been fun to see though.

    • ridiculous says:

he could possibly jumped it if he was Bubba….as someone else stated…lol..the opening is only 32″

    • Peaches & Cream says:

LMAOOOOOOOF ‘Larry & Darrell’ hahahahha – gosh u gotta get some sort of humour from this pathetic situation!

  34. BERMY says:

Yo y does tha popo not stop those people, if duns goin cross somerset brdg set up a block, all ya need is one car to be accross the bridge, duns not gonna be able to get cross, police are dumb. comon popo step it up

  35. Agent Smith says:

LOL. Do they not know its like 5 different ways to get around that Location were they are posted. Westside road, st james church, sound view, bobs vally and LONG BAY LANE. HELLO? They made a GREAT escape. BPS Lose yet again. LMFAWTFO

    • WTH???? says:

This is what im saying like why are they there? they should have been at barns corner POINT BLANK PERIOD!!!!

      • Family Man says:

Yeah, but where else are you going to be able to watch the cricket game across the street while you wait?

Amazing thing is, they got all those police bikes there AND a photographer to take their picture, but nobody thought of actually blocking the road?

        • Pastor Syl says:

Since the article states Bernews was asked not to take photographs, I am betting this was a stock photo of police bikes, cos I am almost positive I have seen that pic before.

          • Bernews says:

Sorry…we weren’t clear enough. The bike photo is from today in Somerset. We were only asked to not take photos when we were in the area the shooting occurred.

        • Whistling Frog says:

All of you are dumb… He didn’t ride all the way Somerset, he caught the ferry…

  36. The Ridiculist says:

Somebody’s payroll pays way more. Guess its not government.

  37. OMG says:

Bermuda needs a police helicopter period! Love the comments about ex-pats being incompetent particularly since the commentors can barely write English. I’d agree go sign up with the Police force if you want the Ex-pats out…problem there though is you’d probably struggle to write your name let alone complete the form.

  38. happy says:

    hahah i love west .bye

  39. Truth Spoken says:

Keeping it real we know this needs to stop but will it no and further more remember what goes around comes around so these guys won’t stop until they are all dead or locked up.

  40. smh2 says:

If all of you know the problem and are police experts why dont you join the police force. No Im not a police officer but ou act like these guys have a crystal ball and know when a shooting is going to occur and can just zoom at the speed of light to catch people…but the same clowns who want the police to drive fast will complain again if a police car crashes…we do not manufacture robocops, humans will make errors…if you wanna blame someone, blame the two people that conceived these low lifes and brought them into society…And what are the police supposed to be doing in the picture chasing the criminals??…..you want chuck norris actions shots or something.??….It amazes me how everyone says its the police bla bla…the police aint the ones shooting, its our simple minded “black” brothers who have Satan sitting on thier shoulders whispering in their ear…..Satans got a stronhold on this island that wont wait a minute…and everyone is blaming the wrong people……carry on…..

    • WTH???? says:

Did you read the story??? cause ur comment has me worried about you.

WE ARE BLAMING THE POLICE CAUSE THEY LET A BOY GIVE CHASE FROM HAMILTON ALL THE WAY SOMERSET AND DIDN’T THINK TO SET UP A ROAD BLOCK TO STOP THEM THAT COULS HAVE BEEN DONE EASY.

NO ONE IS SAYING THE POLICE SHOULD HAVE DONE 500 MPH TO CATCH HIM WE ARE ASKING WHY WASNT A ROAD BLOCK SET UP.

AND WE ARE NOT SAYING THEY SHOULD KNOW IT WAS GONNA BE A SHOOTING BUT HOW TO YOU PULL CHASE FROM TOWN TO SOMERSET??? IF THEY LOST THEM IN PAGET I WOULD HAVE SAID OK COOL THEY TRIED BUT WHEN U HEAR PEOPLE SAYIN THEY SAW THE BOY ON THE BIKE ON MIDDLE ROAD IN SOUTHAMPTON AND THEN THE POLICE COME CROSS 10 MIN LATER WE NEED TO BLAME THE POLICE .

      • limited experience says:

No need to worry about me because I live in reality….you people are crying because they pulled chase through a couple parishes……..anything is possible with a criminal and andrenaline….come talk to me when you witness a chase on a highway………goin on for hours…and criminals…STILL GET AWAY…..

      • kiss says:

        Set a road block where.
the rider didnt leave a flight plan to say he was heouaded straight Somerset.
And gona hide behind the purple house across from Nana Jones garden.
Police work isnt easy or magic.
U all complain about what the police or cant do to ur liking. Yet.
What did u do to prevent any of this. Or to help this situation or any other
incident that concerns Our Island Home.
Maybe mike desila n paula cox need to shot the whole police service down for a month so all the ‘popo’
can get train to please everyone all the time. Who u gona call or complain about then when police arent
patroling at 4am while u n urs sleep in ur beds.
BPS isnt a perfect system but its working n doing something.
Can u say the same about urself, ur friends and family.
Im not attacting u. im just asking.

    • YAWN says:

      agree smh2

  41. gta says:

Pictured above: 5 police bikes or $100,000+ photo props

  42. rubber bong says:

the guy actually got away from the police. if it wasn’t for the West End primary kids telling the police that they were going the wrong way and pointing them towards where the bike went he would have gotten off clean

  43. HOLD ON WAIT! says:

UMMM didnt he have to pass a Firestation to get to somerset??

How many fire trucks do they have? and they cant spare one to stop the guy bike??

Put it in the middle of the road just before the gas station or even further up so the guy cant get past. comon where does our money go to?

    SMH

    • Andrew says:

      1. Probably not very effective against a motocross bike
      2. I don’t think the firemen would appreciate being shot
      2. You are blocking the road to all traffic, which leaves a bunch of stopped motorists to face a desperate gun weilding assailant.

      Think before you post.

      • Andrew says:

        Of course, I meant 1,2,3…

      • SMFH says:

1.If they put trucks in the middle of the road they wont be able get cross n whos telling the firefighters park de trucks and stay there???? park de trucks n go bout ya business!

2.We have a police station in somerset so therefor after the trucks get parked the police should have been there for anything extra that could happen ie. shootout

      • YAWN says:

and there are still alternate roads around the firestation..

  44. Howey Feltersnatch says:

lol we needa start are own cops show… dem guys beasted der way all d way west n didnt get caught… lol cctv needs 2 put dis s**t on d news tonight. hahahahahahahaha

  45. lifeblood says:

    Something…doesn’t sound right about this…

  46. SMH !!!! says:

I cant believe this happened. Back int he day ppl were getting road off the road from cops. This dude came town stole a scram and road all the way somerset.. All props to him cause cops have bigger and faster scrams and they cant even catch a smaller damn scram.. This is freakin unbelieveable !!!!!

  47. Wondering says:

You remove all foreigners living on the Island from the roads and that will leave dumb bermudians who continue to talk on their cell phones and/or poking to see who is going in the car past them in either direction, or putting on make-up….. or some other foolishness….

Someone make a comment yesterday – gov’t is making a killing off the cellphone law! apparently not enuf as they continue to press on towards their make of bringing this island to their knees with the help of the gang’s/shooters/thiefs…. Education is on a serious reel as Berkeley is having a mandatory meeting for all parents this evening at 5:30pm… Come on parents come out and support our schools….. sounds like more cuts to me.. Gov’t seems to have a new motto – “Keep their a$$ss uneducated and on the nearest wall.” Not my child you morons – yours have their education, well mine is going to get theirs 2.

  48. Katharyn 'Kitty Kat' Albouy says:

So if they really wanted to catch these guys, We need to get like the T.V. show Cops!!!!! And get A HELICOPTER!!!!

    • Chart says:

We can’t afford a helicopter never mind the gas and maintenance to keep it up in the air for enough time to be of any use.

  49. Way To Go ! says:

    Great work BPS !!!

  50. yolo says:

I rate this, pulled chase from town all the way west, that’s some sh#t, the man got them fast bikes for nothin lol

  51. Truth Spoken says:

The police probably enjoyed the chase

  52. Interesting says:

WOW I am more worried now for my family and friends protection.

  53. SMFH says:

so if ive read correctly these guys rode from the city to somerset on a 125cc ?? Honestly all the money getting put into these highpowered police vehicles and most of the drivers have never drove nothing over a 2000cc car, or 150cc scooter! Really and trully send these Cops foreign drive some real Cars! Damn If u didnt have 2 do street duty to be a cop i woulda been a Detective just To show these dreamers how to drive that audi and bmw! In all honestly i coulda caught those “suspects” in my renault!!!lol

    • SST: says:

All you did was read gossip before getting the facts cause there was no chase from the City to Somerset and did they say bikes no more gossip don’t open you mouth just because you have that big hole in your head get the facts first

  54. benson says:

gun shots again mercy, you need american cops in bermuda to get the job done bermudian cops are afriad of there own to get it done, it’s never gona end till the right patrol gets in operation clean sweep . Goverment needs to wake up to the 21st century

  55. Be honest says:

One question should be whether or not the officers in pursuit were armed or not. I dont many of us would have been to hot to catch up with a suspect who obviously has no problem with murdering someone and is desperately trying to escape the scene of an attempted murder. Maybe the officers giving chase were only trying to keep the suspect in sight until an armed unit could be dispatched to their location. Besides that, the police are trained to ride with extreme precaution and concern for the general public, even at high speed and i am certain that the suspect proceeded along with a wreckless disregard for any other life accept his own.

    • Terry says:

      Absolutely correct.

    • walls says:

“Besides that, the police are trained to ride with extreme precaution and concern for the general public, even at high speed”

Have you been keeping note of the number of police wrecks we have each year? Extreme precaution and concern, surely not!

    • CYGNET says:

Take note of many of the Police Officers when in uniform and what they are fitted out with. Ray Charles could see what they carrying.

      • Be honest says:

Most of what u are seeing are tasers not guns. I wouldn’t go up against a gun wielding suspect with a taser!

    • kiss says:

Maybe the gun carrying rider should have crashed into one of u negative minded people.
smashed up ur renault then shot at u n ur family.
Maybe then u wouldnt b so quick to throw u verbal support behind them.
Would u have jumped out ur car n trird to grab him. or would u have run in the other direction
once u saw they had a gun.
Police knew he hsd a gun and still put themselves in harms way FOR YOU & YOUR FAMILY’S protection.
Think about that before you speak publicly.
thrre are armed officers but most r unarmed. no gun no taser. got hot pepper n a stick. and still they
Move forward. Forward to protect your ungrateful souls.
makes sense how you came blame those officers.
Those that dont help most often have time to find fault in those that are giving it their all.

  56. FREDDY G says:

tic, tac , toe ! Throw tacs under their a$$, let them slide to the Police !

  57. john says:

i heard it was james bubba stewart

  58. Be honest says:

They must have stolen the bike prior to the shooting because i cant imagine them being stupid enough shoot first and then try to figure out how they would get away after the fact!

  59. TheTruth says:

His a beast yo! Feds are DUM!!!!!!!!!!!lmfao

  60. CaraLinda says:

what i dont understand is, the police clearly knew he was heading to somerset…. no one thought to set up a road block on the worlds smallest draw bridge?! Honestly BDA Police need to start watching some action movies to get a clue!

    • Pastor Syl says:

@ CaraLinda: I am wondering where you got the idea that the police “clearly knew” he was heading to Somerset? I didn’t get that from this story. Do you think they recognized the guy as a Somerset resident?

  61. Emeka47 says:

OK……….I think the FOOL shd be caught, but really…. a chase through at least 5 Parishes. Dangering the lives of the public and the police ….REALLY!

  62. Mermaid says:

Govt. has funded an organization to help with this gun violence but I haven’t seen any proof of them yet. Also, if the BPS would more tactful with their resources, then they wouldn’t need the publics assistance for everything and those monies issued could be used in another much needed area.

  63. C-A Stines says:

Loads of police can’t catch one guy on a stolen bike, chase him from Mount Hill Pembroke to Somerset, sit in Somerset waiting for him, and they take delight in sitting by the roadside and flashing blue lights and pulling people over and ticketing them as they’re on their way to work because they haven’t got fastened seat belt!

  64. Danielle says:

At the end of the day there is no way in hell that the suspects had the ability to travel from Hamilton to Somerset with the police in pursuit and STILL not be captured. There should have been road blocks at Paget stoplights, barnes corner and somerset bridge. BPS is a joke after this one and they better redeem themselves quickly!!!

  65. Real Talk says:

Wait. So the police were supposed to use their telepathic powers to predict that these guys were going to ride all the way to Somerset?

    • yoyo says:

Apparently so, according to the rest of Bermuda.

    • LAWS says:

you must be stupid too, alert police in that direction duh.

      • yoyo says:

How do you know they didn’t? How do you know how much time there was between the police getting the call and the guys taking off on a scrambler bike? You think the Police sat around intentionally not doing everything they could with what they had? If you’re so smart, go join the police and then they can learn from your apparent expertise.

        • LAWS says:

people need stop making excuses for the bps!!!!

          • Pastor Syl says:

People need to stop criticising when they were not present or aware of all the details. Making assumptions about what happened and commenting according to those assumptions makes an … out of you. Me, I’m not claiming it.

      • Real Talk says:

Which direction would that be exactly? People have clearly been watching too much ‘Worlds Wildest Police Chases’ on TV. With all the railway trails, nips, roads that lead to roads and all the rest from town to Somerset I’m not sure exactly what people really expected the police to do. The only ‘dead end’ is Barnes Corner. And how were the Police to know they would go all the way west?

There are only so many police units/officers on duty at any given time and they cannot be everywhere at once.

I cannot believe I’m defending the BPS, but they seem to be damned if they do, damned if they don’t. The rest of us are just damned.

    • Danielle says:

If they were in pursuit they obviously saw what direction they were going!! And if you don’t know what direction you put road blocks throughout this small a$$ island!!

  66. Slick says:

LOL THIS HAS TO BE A COMEDY POLICE CHASE SUSPECT ON A 20sq mile island IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND HE GETS AWAY WITH NO HELP LOL LOL !!!!
    PS THAT RIDERS A MONSTER!!!

  67. walls says:

It seems fishy that they would steal the motocross bike and make good their getaway.

They would have to have had some prior experience as those bikes are powerful. Also they would need to be sure it had enough gas, just hopping on a random bike hoping it does seems odd.

  68. tricks are for kids.. says:

Whether one wants to admit it or not the BPS need to take a fall for this! Fact is the ‘suspected Shooter” is a “BEAST” to have been able to evade the police through at least 5 parishes!!! and the BPS have a lot of explaining to do..And sitting there ‘lying in wait’ at Arnolds for the suspect to ride back across them..Surely they know he has ditched the bike by now if he has not been caught! He has nothing to lose..after all the bike’s not his!!! The guy is probably back in town reading all the posts on Bernews by now……The Police in essence ‘helped’ him to escape…with their sirens blaring all cars would pull over as normal..thus clearing the way for the suspect as well……And I like others have to ask…where were the somerset police? you knew that he was heading West..once he went across Barnes Corner you should have been on full alert!!!…mind you I know that in shootings they call out the Emergency Task Force but in this case there should have been an exception made with all hands on deck!!……….

  69. LMNOP says:

Lol this guy came cross my job over taking n popping, while pulling chase his laughing at the asses in blue

  70. bDaRaCeHeAd says:

The only true rider BPS has is paynter and I think he isn’t on cycle force right now….

  71. Truth Spoken says:

Stop bashing the police if they do good you complain if they mess up you complain, if you can do better than do it if not STHU!

  72. sad says:

I was in warwick an saw the police cars. I came out of kyber pass and never saw or heard any scrambler but saw the first police car by Belmont. From Belmont to ice queen I counted 9 cars and 3 bikes.

  73. amen says:

Proper spelling, grammar and syntax is clearly foreign to 90% of you who are laughing and criticizing the police when it’s a strong chance these thugs are your own flesh and blood. Laugh now, cry later. You can also tell a few of you are young kids/teens with the idiotic Bermudian slang being used…then again some of you adults speak Ebonics as well. Where are your sons while you are writing these inane comments? Can you answer that?

These comments are a clear example of why Bermuda has problems.

I missed the days when Bernews would get on average 10-20 comments an article. Now we are subjected to 100+ comments of incomprehensible, brainless, half witted drivel from the lower echelon of our society.

    • Adeche says:

Never speak/write out of anger. It makes you sound idiotic, then your ramblings are indistinguishable from the idiots you are attempting to insult.

    • tricks are for kids says:

@ “amen” with all the drama your answer is to just point out grammatical errors? what the real problem on this island is from people like you who want to highlight anything that is not in agreement with whatever you have to say. Not everyone thinks alike, and because you can string a slew of ‘big words’ together in a sentence doesn’t make you a rocket scientist either…SMH and SMT and RME all at the same time….

  74. Union Member says:

One word of necessity : Helicopter….they cant outride that!

  75. black pearl says:

#cosign WTH!! if this all started from mount hill how on earth did he make it all the way somerset… y didnt anyone radio all this in to other officers so that hey could have closed the guy/guys in…and when you get to aless white hill field its one way in and one way out of somerset…if the police would have thought like that we could have had one or more of these wannbee gunman off the streets… point..blank..period

    • Bob the builder says:

Well they are foreigners and not familiar with the roads. The guy doubled back on a different bike and we chilling right now laughing a bps saying he went somerset. GOOD JOB BERMUDA POLICE, US GANGSTAS LOVE YOUR INCOMPETANCE.

  76. Mr. Man says:

They weren’t even trying to pull chase… three sportcities and a stolen scram, much more like a pack ride.

  77. Trojan Mon says:

    Tellem Blacka.

  78. Tommy Chong says:

All who glorify this idiot are fools. Yes, the BPS should have had this scenario planned out since it was likely to happen but didn’t. This doesn’t mean this guys is Ryan Villopoto it just means BPS motorcycle unit is incompetent & he got lucky. Why show this guy honor when he’s just a puppet on someone’s string who goes & carries out the dirty work like a mail order bride. Can you even call this guy a man when eventually he’ll be up west gate braiding his owners hair. Is this the values we want to convey to young Bermudians that no matter how many lives this guy takes he’s still “De Beast Cause He Gut Away Fwom De Man” This isn’t PS3 & your not playing GTA this is reality & you better hope you don’t have a twin this guys hubby sent to target because even if you don’t look exactly the same after he’s had a few bumps of coke he’s not thinking straight.

  79. Cheeshums says:

You guys sure he was being chased or was it police escort ????
    Imjustsayin

  80. Skeet Marx says:

Congrats to BPS for making this guy a folk legend. Even if he was/is caught, he should have NEVER made it that far. And then tomorrow, people will be getting pulled over at the bottom of Stowe Hill for farting at the stop sign. Epic Fail.

  81. Compassion says:

On the human side of things, if it were YOU, would it be worth chasing criminals who just fired gun shots for a salary of $1000 bucks a week? As much as I want them caught, if it were me or my loved one, I don’t think I would try all that hard to catch them, they might fire more shots!!! Suppose your son or daughter were on the police bikes, would you want them to risk their lives? Don’t be so quick to answer saying well they get paid to do it – they don’t get paid that great and how many of you really do a good job at work, really, cheat time here and there, failing to this and that. I am not saying this is right, I am only looking at the HUMAN aspect of this. They have children and families too!

    • walls says:

Funny they did do an awesome job, pursuing and booking bike riders using their Ipods. I guess there is the frustration that they put more effort in making criminals of your average person, rather than target persons commiting crimes which have a greater negative impact to society.

    • Wondering says:

      Policeman’s Prayer

      As I perform my duties
      And do my very best
To keep my fellowman from harm
And put their mind to rest.

      Use my skills and judgment
      To help and honor mankind
Please keep me safe from danger
      God’s face I’ll always find.

I give my life to my work
      Some people don’t understand
As I face danger and fear each day
      I help my fellowman.

I stand ready at each and every call
Not looking for glory each day
Yet putting my life on the line
      And paving a safer way.

So when you see a policeman
Ask God to watch him from above
For he is out there protecting you
He needs your support and your love.

    • smh3 says:

I understand what you are saying, but jobs like that come with risks and I am pretty sure the police think of the possibilities before sending in their application.

That is like a fireman being called for a fire and not pursuing the job because he might get burned.

      • compassion says:

I don’t think when most signed up for police jobs that they ever thought Bermuda would come to this – did you? For armed police I understand. But for police carrying around mace, how do we expect the best from them. Mace police are holdings against guns of criminals are holding – it’s a no brainer.

        • compassion says:

Also you can’t compare a firefighter going in with everything he needs to fight a fire with a policeman with mace. If police had guns, well ok, it would be fair game.

    • Think About It says:

I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, but I’m sure I read a while back that Police starting salary (take home) was around $80,000 a year. That’s a good bit more than $1000 a week

  82. tricks are for kids says:

The suspect has been caught thanks to the school children who showed the police which way the bike went. If they hadn’t pointed out which way he went chances are he would not have been caught….

BPS need to step up their game..whether they were prepared for todays events or not they should always be on alert and always ‘expect the unexpected’ Police work does not just entail hiding in the bushes with the radar gun or “loitering” around STOP signs to see if someone runs them….

    • KellyBermuda says:

I keep seeing in the comments that the shooter has been caught, but nothing in the actual news services. Where are you all getting this information from?

      • tricks are for kids..... says:

Maybe they don’t wish to announce it to the public as yet????

  83. Triangle Drifter says:

Must admit, getting from Hamilton to Sandys without getting caught is a stretch. Two good choke points come to mind no matter the form of transport, Barnes corner/South road & Somerset Bridge. With luck & some skill the Police can be outridden however you cannot outride a radio signal.

  84. Wondering says:

where was robo cop Colin P and his co-hort Tyrone F – they love a good chase….

    • walls says:

Too busy booking those law breaking, Ipod riding school girls!

  85. M.T. Pockets says:

The day will come when a police officer has no choice but to shoot one of these young men in self defense. I guarantee that will be the longest thread ever on Bernews and also guarantee that many posters will be anti-police in their comments.

    • KellyBermuda says:

Yep…hand in hand with all the ones commenting ‘he was a good boy, nice Christian child, respected all his family’…blah blah blah.

    • walls says:

If the police stopped harassing your average Joe public enforcing laws which are only there to make revenue for the government, I think you would find there would be far less “anti-police” comments.

I think most people would support the police shooting these gun toting criminals, than booking road users for “petty” offences.

      • Bob the builder says:

I absolutely and totally agree. If they wasnt out here bothering and stop and searching everyday, looking for a little bit of personal grass use then u might get some compliance out of the youth of my generation. Everyone knows except those who haven’t had the experience that police can be nasty rude and lie. Not all, but most. Most local cops that go in the police force leave after a little while due to the issues that goes on. If u have foreigners without a vested interest in what happens to our youth then this is what u get. Most times they are racial profiling. I’ve been through stop and searches without being stopped cause I was with my white ace girl. I have never made it through without her. Damn I miss u lol. Black people, get a white friend and u will be alright. And in conclusion sir desilva of the bps, if your officers waste their time stopping me walking home just about every time for section bloody well 315 and never find anything but tell me I’m part of the problem, me being someone that holds a steady job and has no convictions on my record then I can understand why u can’t catch a guy on a bike in 21 square miles.

      • Finally left! says:

Wasnt someone just busted for driving while disqualified because they were initially pulled over for having an ipod while driving?

didnt everyone think, damn that kids a fool… good he got caught?

If people are willing to do big crimes they are willing to do little crimes, during which the big ones can be found.

Note: Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma bomber, was originally pulled over before arrest because the car had no license plate… NOT because people were looking for the guy who bombed the Oklahoma building.

Unfortunately, the only way to catch these shooters while not “harassing” the rest of the public is to profile… and im sure if that was going on more blatantly than it currently is, then we’d have a whole other load of whining and complaints.

        • D says:

I know the guy who was caught texting, he wouldnt shoot no one or pull chase lol. He’s just an ass ahaha.

          • Finally left! says:

…not a shooter.. but he was driving while disqualified

  86. amen says:

@Adeche and tricks are for kids…..Hit dogs will holler. How did you get that I was “angry” from that comment? I guess reading comprehension is foreign to you too. I’m not angry for pointing out that most people leaving comments can’t even string together a sentence. Don’t blame me because the education system failed you.

@tricks for kids….I never said I was a rocket scientist but hell I can put a few small words together so that my opinion is comprehensible. My comment was not to just point out grammatical errors, again reading and comprehension is foreign to you as well. Read my comment again and stay mad. I didn’t call either of you out by name in my original comment.

    • tricks are for kids..... says:

I never said that you were angry either! don’t know where you read that! Sorry if my comment in relation to your comment bothered you enough to respond yet again but just as you “pointed out” I “pointed out” as well…..

  87. Dave West says:

Whyyyyyyyyy would any tourist come to Bermuda any longer? This is NOT Bermuda anymore!

    • True Bermudian says:

When you read comments on tripadvisor.com and cruisecritic.com tourists really love Bermuda.

Say what we will from our tiny Bermy perspective, but tourists really do love Bermuda because they love all that it has to offer.

    • Tommy Chong says:

Bermuda is still safer then Jamaica, Bahamas, Florida, Cancun & and many other highly touristed areas. So why wouldn’t they? Besides most tourist are from places were they’ve become desensitized to black on black killing & look at it as something that “just happens” Im glad we are not at that point & we are still throwing up our hands asking why I think this means we still have hope for a better day.

  88. True Bermudian says:

Why can’t BPS just set up a road block on all three major roads?

“Oh the guys coming west? Okay the trucks are into position.”

Anyone ever traveled west when there is traffic? No one is getting through.

  89. ghetto yout says:

The bermuda police are dumb I saw with my own eyes he. Shock d man n came popping back cross d cars n steal got away!#BERMUDA POLICE ARE DUMB

  90. what d hell says:

The guys a rider! Pulled chase from town to west.. Yu have to rate him! D man are a bunch of jokers! Their lifes a joke!

  91. what d hell says:

The police are dumb lmao dont kno wat thier doin, LIFES A JOKE hahaha

  92. Terry says:

When these a%#holes shoot a family member and are brought before the courts, you’ll sing another tune….What d hell.

  93. THAT_BERMUDIAN_GUY says:

@ (STAINED BOMBOCLA*T PARADISE)STOP TRYING TO PROMOTE YA WASK A$$ VIDEO AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE VIOLENCE… MOST OF THE GUYS IN THAT VIDEO ARE ALL WEED HEADS THEMSELVES… YOU BECOME APART OF THE HYPE AND PROPAGANDA WHEN ALL YOU DO IS LOOK FOR SELF GLORIFICATION, AND NOT PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!! DONT BLAME THE GOVERNMENT, DONT BLAME THE POLICE,,, BLAME SOCIETY!!!! PEOPLE ALWAYS POINT FINGERS WHILST HIDING UNDER A ROCK…

    • Honesty says:

      Agreed.

    • I beg to differ says:

Unfortunately, like some, you have completely missed the point of the entire video and have only reiterated the message that I believe they are trying to share. You have only focused on what is negative, when all that has been suggested is their passion for their belief of what is wrong in Bermuda and the world itself. It sounds like you have more of a personal problem (due to the caps lock stuck on your entire body of text). As everyone is entitled to their opinion, you can say as you please. However, now its my turn. It worries me that the rapper in this video and the words shared are directly related to you. This in fact is your own wrong doing. Instead of focusing on the “WASK (I think you were implying WACK?) A$$(unsure what your dollar signs were meant to represent)VIDEO”, you should be listening more to what the ENTIRE message has portrayed here. It’s people like you that reiterate our problem. I feel by expressing themselves so bluntly and raw, they have done many of us a justice by speaking out on how many of us really feel. This is STEP ONE.
P.s. Big up to the people that REALLY care and the individuals and activists that refuse to be silenced.

  94. vampy says:

i dont understand why the police in town couldnt call the police in somerset and tell them to create a road block at the little bridge after hitching post.if the cops were sitting at arnolds by somerset primary its no wonder they didnt catch the guy right away, there are tons of different ways the guy could of gone up to that point. The police department is a joke for not catching this guy sooner

  95. amen says:

@tricks are for kids…I didn’t reply solely to you so obviously it wasn’t you who called me angry. I’m bothered because I responded to a comment that YOU left to my first comment? Are you serious? Were you bothered when you replied to my comment that did not name you? Do you realize how idiotic you sound? I know you don’t read about the middle school level, which is why you were offended and replied in the first place but please try and keep up!

    • tricks are for kids..... says:

You didnt have to mention my name..I just commented on yours for being critical of someone else’s writing style..I’m still looking at my previous comment to see where you would have felt that I was “bothered” because the comment didn’t mention me… are you serious do you know how idiotic and childish YOU sound..give me a break..Not sure what your getting at when you say, “I know you don’t read about the middle school level” but if your trying to say I don’t know “what’s what” I would beg to differ.. I actually work as a Behavioral Therapist at the Middle School level aNd what I can point out from your behavior (in this case behavior in the form of a comment) is that you easily don’t accept criticism. You can point out errors to someone but the minute it is thrown back at you, you can’t handle it….At any rate by going back and forth we are digressing as the article is in relation to a police chase and its not about you or me…apologies in advance if you took offence to my comment but I do believe it is known as “freedom of Speech” and just as you feel free to comment on someones comment, directly or indirectly please bear in mind that others have the right to comment on yours as well…

  96. Ryan says:

Hey… at the end of the day, another idiot is put behind bars, and we—not the ‘riduh’—get the last laugh.

With that said, yes, this was poorly coordinated by the police; I mean, five parishes?! On a 21 sq. mile island? Come on… Glad he was /eventually/ caught, though.

  97. SST: says:

One thing if you locals want to open that big whole in your head then open it and lets make sense, stop bashing police all these comments that you are making you should be bashing the gangs and making these comments to them cause they are the ones who dont have respect for all of us at the young ages that they are they have not even started to live their life so who gives them the right to tell people they can’t come into parishes and go and kill someone open your mouth for the right reason and stop opening it just because you can

  98. mixitup says:

Another mis-lead youth throws his life away following other mis-lead morons. When will they learn. This “Ghetto Gangster” life leads to one of two places (and for some folks both) JAIL or the GRAVE. So to those who “Rate” this and call this goon a “Beast” go right along…

  99. JAWS says:

I keep telling you all the Prison is to nice. The youth are not afraid of a little jail time for busting a cap in your head! Lock them all down 23 hours a day, 1 hour for rec and slide the food under the cell door. Then you’ll see how many want to go to prison and live in a room for 15 plus years. Have their family visit them behind a plaxi glass and let them talk using phones.

Come on Bermuda wake up. You have to hit crime across the board with HARD TIME. That will be the only deterrent. Then you’ll see even the hardest bie cry like a BIATCH!!!!!

  100. M.T. Pockets says:

What makes some of the posters here think the police don’t know what they are doing. They have radios, cell phones so why do you think that they wouldn’t let the Western Police know the progress of the chase. How do you know they didn’t set up road blocks or observation points? What would you do under the circumstances knowing that a desperate young man who is scared of being caught is running from the police with a gun in his hand? How predictable would this gangstas actions be if he came across a road block with traffic backed up and police bearing down on him from behind? Is it worth putting the lives of innocent members of the public at risk from bullets flying all over the place? I would say it isn’t. Couple that with the fact that at this stage some police officers are not armed and should not go rushing a guy with a gun with a can of mace or nightstick. And as stated by someone else, who you going to call when one of your family members gets shot, Chuck Norris? No, the Bermuda Police.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Hate to suggest it, but maybe it is time to arm the BPS, at least as long as the gang situation is at it is.

You are right. The BPS cannot be expected to face a hand gun with mace or a stun gun. That lesson was learned in LA many years ago against heavily armed with body armoured bank robbers.

    • Redman says:

      Well said M. T. Pockets

    • Lissa says:

Finally a voice of reason and logic. Thanks M.T.

  101. Dwayne Talbot says:

    To Bernews,

Maybe your headline has cause some confusion. By stating that Police chase suspects after shooting it seems that people believe that the police always had them in their sight. Maybe the camera’s assist them to the directions of the suspects.

    Dwayne Talbot

    • M.T. Pockets says:

Very good point Dwayne Talbot. The advantage would be with the man on the motorcycle as he decides when to turn and where to go, the pursuing police have to react to his movements and conceivably may not have him in their sight at all times. Very good point sir!

  102. Honesty says:

Real Life Grand Theft Auto: Shoot-Steal some trans-and run from police. Hopes the individuals realize that ‘life’ doesn’t have a reset button when your caught.

  103. FULL MOON says:

ALL OF YOU WHO ARE CALLING THE POLICE A JOKE MAY BE RIGHT. YOU MAY BE RIGHT IF YOU CONSIDERED AND CAN JUSTIFY THE FOLLOWING. MOST OF THE POLICEMEN CHASING THIS BIKE MAY HAVE BEEN UNARMED. THERE WAS THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE RIDER WAS ARMED. SHOULD THE UNARMED POLICEMEN HAVE BLOCKED ALL TRAFFIC AT SOMERSET BRIDGE AND WAITED FOR THE RIDER? ONCE THE POSSIBLY ARMED RIDER WAS CORNERED ON SOMERSET BRIDGE WITH NUMEROUS OTHER CARS BLOCKED IN THE SAME AREA WHAT WAS THE POTENTIAL HARM TO JOE PUBLIC IF THE RIDER BEGAN SHOOTING. SHOULD THE DRIVERS OF THE POLICE CARS AT ANY OTHER POINT DURING THE HIGH SPEED CHASE, JUST DROVE DIRECTLY INTO THE RIDER WHO MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE SHOOTER? SHOULD THE POLICE CHASING JUST TRY TO REMAIN AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE AND WAIT FOR ARMED BACK-UP TO COME? DO ANY OF YOU KNOW WHERE THE CHASE STARTED? IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE THE HERO WHO WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM PLEASE ATTEND THE NEAREST POLICE STATION AND PICKUP AN APPLICATION THEY ARE WAITING FOR YOU TO JOIN. IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION LET THEM KNOW. IF YOU JUST WANT TO BE A MOANING KNOW-IT-ALL KEEP WRITING THESE ILL INFORMED COMMENTS.

  104. Ace Girl (Original) says:

Those POPO bikes will do zero to 60 in under 5 seconds and do about 130mph flat out. How come some guy on a little scrambler got away?

  105. MYSTERY LADY says:

yo u mean to tell me that robo cop cp was not on duty for these mob punks he would have loved that they would not have made it outttttttttter town

    • Aquarius says:

lmao! Robo cop may be a dick but he still cant drive!!!!

  106. say what u like says:

I am sorry but I have to say BPS is trash. I don’t rate the shooting part but I damn sure rate the chase. THIS GUY IS A BEAST. I can only imagine how much fun he had popping up n down and still making it all the way somerset. BPS this should b a lesson for ya’ll, STEP YA GAME UP. Instead of wasting precious time ticketing for ipods and stopping and searching the same cars over and over put in some real work. Seems to me the minute things get hot n their lives have 2 b put at risk (like they didn’t know it was part of the job) they are not as aggressive. They will chase u and knock u off your bike when u run cause u have a bag of weed and can’t catch u when u have a gun. This is why people swear down that police are in it for the money not to keep the criminals off the street. If they didn’t make trouble out of small pointless situations maybe they would have more cooperation from the public. In the usa when persons are being chased 9times out of 10 they get public assistance in forcing these vehicles to stop, box them in or run them off the road. I would have loved to offer my services but they might have charged me with obstructing justice. Give us a couple inches let us take a mile if u want us to take our BERMUDA back. Give us (the public) the right to beat these children like their parents should have. I have a son and like hell if I will ALLOW him to make me uncomfortable in my own home. Licks will b trumps. I will embarrass him in front of the world. These children only do what we ALLOW them to do.

  107. Second says:

Work with our Police. Their job is NOT easy!!!! Support and pray for them because we’d be lost without a BPS!

  108. csmith says:

SO HOW U ALL FEEL NOW?? POLICE HAVE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY!!! THEY STILL A JOKE AND ALL THE REST?? TO THE FOOL THAT SAID THE FIRE SERVICE SHOULD HAVE PUT THE TRUCK IN THE ROAD……. SMART MOVE FOOL!!!!! PLEASE GET A LIFE!!!

    • True Bermudian says:

Ever heard of the caps lock key there Chuckles?

Funny how an ignoramus such as you has to yell just to be heard.

This is you: “Oh look at me. I’m somebody. I’m from a small Island the rest of the world doesn’t care about. Someone hear me. Someone notice me. I’ll play my music real loud in my car going up Queen Street so someone pays attention to me. I can’t make a real point so I have to type all in caps just so I might stand out because I’m an insignificant part of a spoiled racist lazy ignorant pointless island nation which has nothing to offer the real world.
Won’t someone please take notice of and pay attention to me?”

    • Can't Take It Anymore says:

Ya sure, just a suspect ! Till they make ends meat I think you should hold your tongue.

  109. Opportunity or Obligation ? says:

Wow!The point is they went to commit a crime and which they did by shooting a firearm. The second point is they had no transportation after the shooting and then committed a second offense by stealing the bike to get away.Question, who are the real dumb ones? I would say its two part them who committed the crime and the police who could not catch them from Pembroke to Somerset. So to who you are I want to sign you up for Super Motor Cross Racing 2012&2013 season.

    • tricks are for kids says:

They had transportation…They just stole an ADDITIONAL mode of transport…

  110. Get Out Of Bermy says:

Get Out Of Bermy you Fools!!!

  111. Amazing sight says:

Well BPS, looks like you will have an influx of applications in the very near future. All the lip service these comments have tells you that they have ALL the solutions to your problems and Bermuda’s problems. So GET READY!! Oh and keep up the great work, you all are always in my prayers.

    • Lissa says:

I agree Amazing. Keep up the good work BPS (and Desi Poo)

  112. reallythough Shae Wade says:

oh man dont be mad at the rider.. obviously his in the wrong profession .. he obviously needs to become a stunt rider. people constantly judge young males what activities are you giving .. to better past time??? NONE bermuda doesnt have nothing to do for youth. an yeah its easy to blame the young.. even though we where brought up from the older generation! blame goes both ways

  113. SMH !!!! says:

I think BPS should reward the whole sandy’s school lunch for the help they gave them. cause without their help the police would have never caught him. They had the public’s help reward them. Good job STUDENTS !!!

  114. Kingdom Kid says:

Hope all involved in this incident have learned a lesson or two. BPS will always be in my prayers!

  115. M$# born & raised says:
