Power Surge Causes Partial CableVision Outage

June 18, 2012

A number of local residents spent part of their holiday weekend without cable due to a power surge caused by the inclement weather.

Bermuda CableVision General Manager Terry Roberson said, “There were power surges across the island yesterday [June 17] due to the winds and storm. Our weekend staff worked overtime and cable service was restored last night.

“However, two nodes went off again in Pembroke and Smith’s and everyone had service restored by early afternoon today. We apologise for the time it took to restore service, however, the damages were greater than we expected.”

  2. pepper says:

Terry Roberson, has no clue how to run cable vision…. in the middle of watching a movie it will freeze, or have all kinds of pink sparkss…is there anyone monitoring these shows ? it so annoying when you are watching a movie and this happens….we are paying big bucks for this service…and it sucks…. there was a guy that you could call..His first name was Jeremy and he always was available and took care of the problem.

  3. Kalz says:

I live in Smiths also and my cable is still not ON…MAD is an understatement….

Fix my service and stop lying saying that its back on

  4. pepper says:

It is me again,,,, and the weather is fine, but a lot of my friends have no cable …. so Terry what are you going to blame it on now ? cable vision sucks…..

  5. pepper says:

Hey you lot go through what you are paying for and see what is frozen.. and we still pay for this sh$t.. Bermudians we need to make a stand…enough of cable vision…bring back Jeremy.

  6. Laughable says:

Cablevision blows. I am in Smiths and my cable just came back on at 8pm. Just another example of Cablevision incompetence.

  7. no cable says:

my channels keep freezing, everyone should be given a discount for today

  8. Baileys bay says:

    WOW never blinked….

  9. bermy$hotta says:

    $witch to WOW…..simple!

  10. fed up already says:

Problems due to the winds and storm ? ? What storm ? BWS reported gusts of 52 kts. Is that a storm or just a warning that their infrastructure is so wimpy that we can expect outages with just a puff of wind or 93% humidity for an already overpriced utility that should be there all the time ?

And when can I and everyone else expect to get the speed from our internet that we pay for ? You know , the speeds that you advertise and overcharge us for ? ?

  11. Truth is killin' me... says:

Don’t pay your bill for lack of service!!! People need to know their rights.

  12. What the??.. says:

Switching to WOW and DSL TODAY!!!!!!!!!

  13. Mamma Mia says:

My major gripe with CableVision is the constant freezing of certain channels and blacked out screens which go on and on indefinitely! Shouldn’t someone be monitoring these things and, if not, why not? We’re expected to pay our bills in full on time but are not getting a full months service!

  14. unusual suspect says:

My Cable was off on Thursday evening, most of Saturday, all of Sunday and only came back on Monday at 8pm. It is now off again this morning. To say that service was restored by early afternoon is total and utter crap. 8pm is not early afternoon in anyone’s book. Poor customer service is compounded when people start telling lies.

Unless Cablevision reduce my bill this month, that’s it, I am off to BTC and Wow. Having all my eggs in one basket doesn’t make sense anyway, as when the TV goes down, so does the Internet.

  15. Bermyman says:

    Bermuda,

If you wish to complain about the quality of service you Receive from Cable vision.

    Please e-mail: gtelecom@gov.bm

Th e Ministry of Telecommunications needs to hear it from the people.

and detail your complaint. Enough is enough from this company that seeks to exploit it’s consumers through Monopolistic practices.

  16. Prayerful says:

I just don’t know what to say. I am in Smith’s and have had intermittant cable since Thursday.

we were off on part of Thursday, part of Friday, part of Saturday, most of Sunday, all Day Monday and it is now 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday and we are still not on.

Cablevision did not report any power outages to BELCO. I feel sorry for the overseas agents who say ” I am only telling you what cablevision has told me”

I do not think that any technicians were working yesterday, at least the trucks were not seen.

My question is, if there were power outages why is it that WOW customers in the same building did not lose service at all?

Cablevision should make a public apology on all media especially to the people of Smith’s.

  17. Annoyed says:

I live in Flatts and have had no calble or internet since Saturday.

The week before that I had no internet all week as they could not get a technician out to us.

No apologies or offer of a discount from Cablevision! We would switch to WOW but our condo association doesn’t allow antennas.

  18. ID14 says:

Live in Smith’s and had no internet all weekend. It came back on last night around 9pm but went off again this morning at about 6am. Still not on. I’m switching to another provider. Disgraceful service.

  19. Bermudastruggle says:
