10 Days In Jail: Riding While Disqualified

24-year-old Randall Raynor was jailed for ten days this morning [Sept 12] after pleading guilty to the offence of riding whilst disqualified. It was the second time that he had been caught and charged with riding whilst disqualified.

Mr Raynor had been seen riding earlier this month and when Police tried to stop him, he did not stop and rode off and failed to stop at a stop sign.

These two actions resulted in charges of driving without due care, for which he was fined $250; and failing to stop for police, for which he was fined $300.

The driving whilst disqualified offence resulted in a fine of $500 as well as a ten day prison sentence which was to commence immediately.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner reminded Mr Raynor that on his last appearance in Court, he had told him that if he came back a second time for riding whilst disqualified, he would be facing the strong possibility of a prison sentence.

The Senior Magistrate asked Mr Raynor if there was any reason why he should not be locked up, and Mr Raynor said: “I rode the bike to get stuff for the hurricane. I wasn’t on the bike, I was at the ATM. I rode off after. I have a two year old daughter that I have to take care of.”
