Two Teenagers Deny Betting Shop Deception
In Magistrates Court yesterday morning [Sept 6], two teenagers were both charged with counts of deception. Both pleaded not guilty and elected to go to trial in the lower Court. All charges stemmed from alleged activity on 18th August 2012.
Marcus Muhammad, 17, and Khoshun Lightbourne, 19, together pleaded not guilty to using an altered betting slip to induce Seahorse’s betting shop to pay them $25,000.
No trial date was set, but both teenagers must return for Mention on 20th September. Neither was represented by legal Counsel but were assisted by lawyer Saul Dismont, who was acting as Duty Counsel. The teenagers were granted bail of $5,000 each with each having to provide a like surety.
Senior Magistrate Archie Warner offered them legal and cautionary advice telling them that the charges that they faced were very serious and that they should make sure that they are legally represented when they appear for trial.
