Police Arrest Four Men After ‘Disturbance’

November 5, 2012

[Updated] There was a heavy police presence on Kindley Field Road on Sunday afternoon [Nov 4], with multiple police vehicles and officers present.

Some of the police officers appeared to be armed, and it appeared that two or three men were arrested.

The police presence appears to have occurred due to an incident at the the Dudley Eve Semi-Finals, which saw heavy traffic coming in and out of the area as fans made their way to the St David’s Cricket Club where two football games took place.

Unofficial reports indicate tensions may have flared between members of two rival gangs at the Club, and the police were responding after that incident. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 6.46pm: The police confirmed there was a “disturbance” at St. David’s Cricket Club, one man was injured, and several arrests were made.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 3:30pm on Sunday, November 4th police officers responded to a reported disturbance at St. David’s Cricket Club. One male was injured and is being treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a result. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

“Several arrests have been made in connection with this incident and inquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the main police number on 295-0011.

Update Nov 5 1.45pm: The police said that they are continuing their inquiries into the disturbance that occurred around 3:30pm on Sunday [Nov 4]  at the St. David’s Cricket Club.

A 28-year-old male was injured, treated at hospital and released. Four men were arrested in connection with this incident shortly after it happened and they remain in police custody.

Police said the victim “assaulted by several offenders despite the presence of eleven police officers at the sports club ground that afternoon, along with other police officers outside the premises and private security personnel on duty.”

Once, just once, why can’t people go out and enjoy themselves without something ‘going down’. This is really getting old. If you know you can’t go out without acting up, do us all a big favour and stay the hell home!!!

Agreed. This nonsense is exactly why hardly anyone even goes to the games anymore. Sad.

I stoped goin 2 games about 3years ago! The football is crap, n me n my familys safety in much more important than catchin a stray bullet!!!

  4. Gatorade Jeff says:

I wouldn’t mind if these people cared passionately about their clubs, but they couldn’t give a f. They follow United and Arsenal and Liverpool, this is just an excuse to continue their bizarre, comedy gangster games which in any other city would be stamped on by the police or truly nasty gangs. One day you’ll all look back and say what were we thinking, as you stare another 20 in Westgate in the eyes.

  5. mixitup says:

Any word of condemnation by these thugs’ probable representatives??? I actually think all this thuggish behaviour is part of a plan to destroy this island… you know, anything considered ‘colonial’… nice work you lot… I hope you’re proud of what you have done to this country!

  8. SMH says:

I find it funny how there is very little police presence during the game, but a million police officers after the disturbance. This is always how the Bermuda Police Service Works. !! Maybe if they would hurry the hell up and Maybe PERHAPS fill the games with HEAVY police Presence to start and during games, they might be able to stop the fighting before it starts. It doesn’t take a genius to think of things like this.. I am tired of hearing about there just isn’t enough man power. Poor Excuse.. Look at football games all around the world!! You see a strong hold of police officers Present!! I will say it again:::: I Wish Bermuda’s service would hurry up and WAKE THA ….. UP !!!!

    • Spanky says:

Sure, sounds like a plan. Lets just raise taxes so we can pay for all of that extra police presence. Or perhaps raise the price of admission to these games 5x to pay for all of that police presence. We’d all like a simple, quick solution but the reality is that the thug/gang problem will take a multi-pronged solution… And probably a generation to fix, if at all.

      • Really?? says:

Why do you have to pay for police presence? If the police all came after the disturbance then one can assume that they were already on duty at the time. Where were they? Driving around looking for trouble? On a day where there is football only at one venue and there are teams from Town and Country participating wouldn’t you think it would be a simple decision to place a pretty heavy police presence there? For those couple of hours, police that are already on duty, should be at the game. But no, they want to wait until after the incident has happend to spring into action….to late. What ever happend to crime prevention?

        • cool! says:

I totally agree! its a service and they should know where they should be duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!they are out for cycle races they are there to make sure trafic is rerouted anyone would think they are hiding from the real problems or are encouraging the behaviour simply do to their absence makes one wonder.its called police on the beat!!their very presence will help to keep the peace, instead of using half the force AFter the fact to protect the clowns when they appear in court!

          • Concerned says:

Ask the BFA if they had asked for police presence at St. David’s yesterday. Just like there was not supposed to be any spectator’s allowed to park their cars inside the gates – who the heck let them in.

On the three arrested – post their pictures at all sports and night clubs and ban them from all places for the rest of their lives.

Keep their lust for violence and payback or whatever they call it right in their own backyards. St. David’s Community is loving, friendly and family oriented people, what the fack is wrong with you people.

    • Netballer72 says:

You make no sense… you want a million police at the games! Then when someone is breaking in your house in somerset, steals you bike and uses it to carry ur flat screen down the road you will complain where was the police? lol love my people.. and then when there are a million police standing up at the game you will say look at them making all that money doing nothing “go look for the real killers” lol! you cant please everyone.. how about the enitre police service all 450 of them be on duty for the football game and then at 3am who will be working? Or shall they all work 24/7? When u divide them up between the depts and the shifts to cover all the different areas of crime demands you are left with 30 cops island wide to watch over YOUR DISRESPECTFUL CHILDREN at any given time.. wow! Im a mother and if my son ever….. he deserves what he gets. Why complain about the police the issue is the hooligans.. Great job BPS

  9. Cno evil hur no evil says:

Yah they bring the entire Force up Somerset Cricket Club when it’s Trojans Vs St Georges. But they won’t show up 30 Deep when they got all the big games going on.. Police Are Pathetic.

  14. Eyes are wide open says:

Bermuda Police service is a joke, it’s so funny how only 2 police officers were present for 15 mins before the altercation took place. They saw these young men arrive to the game, but yet they still choose to leave(BPS). I don’t believe that they are not aware of who these young men are because everybody at that game knew and very aware of who they are and what was going to happen. So PLEASE BPS explain to me about your intelligence cause the young man who got injured him all his friends left to but the attackers were able to stay to watch the second half of the football match. —— I’m happy to hear you made arrest but how you gonna arrest some and not all. I don’t trust Police and I don’t trust PLP or OBA. All of you are the exact same looking for the big piece of the pie $$$$$. While the rest of us have to endure such behaviors. Maybe if you spent less time arguing with one another maybe everyone else will follow suit. Lead by example stop knocking on our doors for election and come talk on a monthly bases. Your sincerity is a joke. Everybody needs to get real and realize the solution which is unity.

  15. Unbelievable says:

    Hmmmmm
    Dandy Town = PSC
    Somerset = MOB
Dudley Eve in St Davids where both teams are playing = 0 police presence
St. Davids = New hideout/territory for PSC
    PSC = —

All seems to add up to me…..

    • Concerned says:

You are exactly as your name says “Unbelievable”, plus your addition is pee poor, hope you have a girt eraser Mate because all of your math’s scores so far show you have “FLUNKED”. The old timers would say you are takling out of your ar$$ – by the time the Church’s pray, walk around the Community praying, Man those byes won’t be able to stand the heat and run back to their hood.

      • Mr. B says:

His math adds up as that is exactly who was fighting.

      • Unbelievable says:

You are either PSC, related to PSC, or a member of the “presence” that was conveniently missing….

    • evenwithblindeyez says:

Unbelievable, your math adds up to me and a whole lotta people. You got it. But as somebody already said, whether police there or not, don’t think it would have made much difference, especially cos they think they are above the law.

      • Unbelievable says:

Actually my PSC = did have a word instead of a – but I guess Bernews felt they had to edit the other “P” word….
But those that know the math know what = what and can guess what the – meant since its symble alone signafies the minus presence….

  16. tricks are for kids.. says:

PSC need to realise that THEY are not the only ones that can go somewhere!!!! really??? that person that more than 7 of you attacked had every right to be there as well!!!! News flash…YOU OWN NOTHING!!!!!!! and 7+ and a weapon against 1 shows that you really are punks!!!!

  17. really tho says:

well well well…………no police ……….what’s new Colonial Oppression its their plan ….its all a much bigger plan….watch “HIDDEN COLORS” there’s a fight to fight if you want to change OUR situation…….You must first seek knowledge to gain wisdom to apply to this situation…..not everyone in a “gang” wants to be there……….I don’t condone any type of actions that hurts anyone but I have a better understanding and know posting on this wont change anything, marching wont change anything either……….I’m just saying.

  18. Bermuda Girl says:

You are so right. PUNKS. I remember going to football games never dreaming s___ like that would happen, and it never did. Good idea: round all knowns up, provide them with all the ammo they need, take them to a locked field and let them kill each other off. No man-sorry,punk-a$$ wannabee-left standing!!

    • Claudio says:

Bermuda girl… can tell your acegirls to stop opening their legs to these punks… if anything that encourages their behaviour. if girls started to chase men with ambition instead of gangbangers then I think we would see a difference.

      • Bermuda Girl says:

Excuse YOU, but I have no “ace girls”, Claudio. I think it must be your family members you want to talk to.

  19. sickywicky says:

Football Games are GHETTO! Most of them are gang members! I have been to 3 maybe 4 games in my whole life and all I remember is the scent of weed and bad language. 80% of the people who go are there to be Seen or hook up. The other 10% are there to get high and drunk and the remaining 10% are there to actually watch and support the team.

So it should be no surprise they a fight has broken out.

    • Really?? says:

Please!!! You have been to 3 or 4 games ever and thinks that qualifies to states who attends football games and why. Go back and hide in your hole.

    • A Bermudian says:

      @sickywicky

If you have only been to 3 or 4 games in your life, how the hell can you make a statement like that. I have been going games for at least 27 years, and what your saying is not true. I will admit it’s more prevelent today, but 4 games and your an expert lol. I assume in those 4 games you attended, you were either there to be seen, smoke weed, hookup, or get drunk, cause thats all 90% of the people attending do right? Or you fell in the 10%?

  20. Judy says:

As I read some of these comments, I noticed that some of you were at the game and saw what happened. Hopefully you tell the police what you know. Still shocked that there wasn’t plenty of police presence at that event. I mean come on…look at the 4 teams that played.

  21. Uncle BOB says:

It will be interesting if there are any charges layed….

If the victim doesn’t press charges, could the MAWI outpatients from middletown still be charged for assulting a club patron?!?

Police you’re still slow off the mark…a.k.a. reactive.

  22. rightious vigilant says:

The only time these goons will learn is when the angel of death is ready to yank their wretched souls from their bodys…how can this island let a bunch of hypocritical, ignorant uneducated highschool dropouts.. half who cant read or write cause so much problems? Sad thing is that this is the result of people in general not caring about the well-being of this country and the a**holes who got arrested will prolly get bailed out…we need to get our country back to the way it was. This stuff is sickening!

    • Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

ok chk dis out ….the dumb arrogant ignorant guys are the first line of contact on the street, they are the ones who do the sh!t that YOU wont do….thats how they get their “false” sense of “respect” they are as dumb as the concrete they stand on …they have cousins , brothers , uncles, further up the ladder with some education and the ability to organize, direct, or solve menial problems of their own accord ….then you got their cousin or brother or uncle who is even further up the ladder of a successful life, well educated , well admired, more than likely holding a position in society which brings great respect and probably is quite a good person …BUT…does more need to be said..?
Why is it that we here on Bernews , have all the answers or resolutions to our problems BUT the people elected and handsomely rewarded in form of a paycheck plus benefits are supposedly the ones to be dealing with our problems ….are you telling me that Paula and her crew dont have the brain activity as we here do ..?
as for psc…i dont know how large a group it is but …anywhere else in the world they wouldnt even leave parsons road…only place safe for them would be no further than infront of their OWN HOUSE….for fear of reprisal as soon as they step off the curb….how is a few gonna ride free all over the island an terrorize….i guess all the other gangs are soft, sissy boys….or psc is governments gang{PLEASE TAKE NOTE EVERY GOVT. HAS ONE WORLD WIDE} so im not singling out any particular ruling party….just stating facts…too tired an not enough room to explain.

  23. vexxed says:

So now that you have arrested them are you going to slap them on the hand and let them go? Time to change the law!!

  24. Real says:

Funny thing is that if all the police resources were at the game these idiots would still fight or do something. They don’t care about the Police or anybody else. Also, if there was a shooting in Town, Ord Road, Rangers, Woodys or anywhere else at the same time as the soccer match in St.Davids, the same jack#$$e$ on here complaining would be saying how come they weren’t patrolling those areas. Can’t please everybody. How many statements or calls to crimestoppers were given by members of the public yesterday. a$$e$

    • Real says:

And PLP want to know why white people don’t send their children to join these clubs?! Really?! I’m black and I won’t send my son to these clubs. SMH

    • A Bermudian says:

      @Real

With a name like Real, you ain’t keeping it real. Who on here said that the game requires the whole police force? Between the police and the BFA they were suppose to have a presence at football games (this statement was made a few years ago, and the last time I checked, the game problem hasn’t slowed down), so no one is asking for anything that was not suppose to happen. I’m not sure where your head is at, but if police were there and patroling, the chances of these types of things happings goes down.

And what does the PLP have to do with it anyway? Further more, some whites have never joined certain clubs, check the history, this didn’t just start happening. I don’t know where you get your info from , but I can tell you don’t have a clue whats going on.

And trust and believe, just because your son is not part of one of these clubs or groups don’t mean he is not exposed to things he won’t reveal to you.

      • A Bermudian says:

Sorry, I meant to say last time I checked, the gang problem hasn’t slowed down

      • Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

hey bermudian …this is the Original “Keepin’ It Real…4Real!” ok buddy…

  25. Amazing says:

Well i truely think that PSC have BPS in the pocket. I have seen them arrive together and then leave together. I believe that they have BPS as their body guards. Cause you will never see BPS handling them in a rough manner. _______

  26. TiredYoungWoman says:

I for one saw the fight unfold and can identify that there were at least 7 PARKSIDE gang members beating off of a Somerset Guy! When he got away the rest of the somerset guys came but couldn’t do much as the police where already there…those somerset boys left the match to avoid any more confrontation and the PARKSIDE boys stayed getting pissed that the bar had closed down because of “a little fight” as I heard one of them call it!! When I left the police seemed to have pull over the somerset boys on kindley field yet PARKSIDE members who started the fight remained inside the club with police standing below looking dumb founded! I agree! The Police are on these —– And no need to question if I will take this information to police cuz I sure as hell will be!!

  27. foldgers says:

I honestly do not think our police force is full of the BRAVE people who should be in uniform. So many join because of the paycheck and think nothing of their obligation to protect and serve. I honestly think that a uniform change is in order. Many are afraid to get these formal looking outfits dirty.. Also they love to pose with their gadgets. Strutting around and looking the part but miraculously when something happens, they and the gadgets are no where to be found. I found one ,, on a sunday morning .. at my doorstep, looking for my son,his crime? well he was in danger committing one apparently, they had come to remind him to pay a fifty dollar parking ticket by that wednesday or risk a warrant.. hmmm . I guess I should be grateful.. but where were they when I called to say a burglar was in the house. I chased him out, and miraculously they arrived once i came back from the unsuccesful chase , to inform me that it was illegal for me to chase him off my property.. I know they have a lot to do, i just have to wonder what sometimes..

  28. smfh says:

im sorry what does playing for any club have to do with the violence thhat occurs at these venues? its not the club members involved it is the spectators smh and to be honest the ones that keep saying bdian football is trash you are just as bad as the government that you bash! NO SUPPORT!! but then if and when one of your kids grow up and decide to play on their own then you will be sitting up complaining that nobody supports right? this entire country is like a DEADBEAT DADDY give no support but let bermuda come out doin good in something than of course the bermudian pride comes out right? everybody always has a solution but yet they aint the ones willing to execute the solution themselves ie jumping in on the choas or giving evidence sure you go ahead and have your kids gettin threatened or even yourself! you wanna know why nobody says nothing because the bulls$#t police DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING they know nothing about PROTECT AND SERVE! OOPS WAIT THEY DO THEY PROTECT AND SERVE —!!!!!
