Parliamentary Registrar Notice: Advance Polling

Parliamentary Registrar Randy Scott today advised voters of Advance Polling procedures for travelers and incapacitated voters.

Mr. Scott said there is a change for Advance Polling this year as there will be two days for advanced polls for travelers whereas for the 2007 election there was only one day.

Advanced Polls for travelers will be held at the 7th Day Adventist Church Hall, King Street, Hamilton on Tuesday, 11th December and Wednesday, 12th December.

Voters will need to bring Advanced Poll Certificates to vote as well as valid photo identification showing their name and date of birth.

Advanced Poll Certificates can be applied for at the Parliamentary Registrar’s Office at the Valerie T. Scott Building, at 60 Reid Street, Hamilton from Wednesday, December 5th until Tuesday, December 11th, 2012 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.and extended to 8:00 pm on both the 11th & 12th.

Proof of intended absence from the island may be in the form of an airline ticket or a letter from a local travel agent certifying the voters’ travel plans have been confirmed. For e-tickets a purchase confirmation will be acceptable.

Advanced polling for incapacitated voters will be on Wednesday, December 12th only. The Chief Medical Officer will examine and issue cards to incapacitated voters at the Hamilton Health Centre, Victoria Street, Hamilton from Wednesday, December 5th through to Monday, December 10th, 2012 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. The cards will allow incapacitated voters who are unable to travel to the polls on polling day to participate in the advanced polls.

Advanced polling for institutions will take place on Thursday, December 13th beginning at 10 a.m. until complete. A Returning Officer, Presiding Officer and Election Agents will visit rest homes, nursing homes and hospitals to allow patients and residents who are eligible and capable of voting to cast their ballots.

Mr. Scott also advised that employers are required by law to allow employees sufficient time off to vote including for advanced polls.

    I think the article should read that advanced poll certificates are available between the 5th and the 12th. It currently reads the 5th and the 11th, but then specifies later hours on both the 11th and 12th.
