Electricity Policy Public Meeting On May 18
The Ministry of Home Affairs will host a public meeting tomorrow evening [May 18] in Hamilton to discuss the proposed National Electricity Sector Policy 2026.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs is reminding the community that it will host a public meeting tomorrow, Monday, 18 May 2026, on the proposed National Electricity Sector Policy 2026 [NESP 2026], which remains open for public consultation.
“The meeting will take place at 6.30 p.m. at St. Paul’s AME Church Centennial Hall in Hamilton. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend to learn more about the proposed policy framework.
“The NESP 2026 sets out the Government’s policy intent to modernise Bermuda’s electricity sector for the first time in over a decade. The proposed policy is anchored in affordability, reliability, and equity, while recognising the rapid evolution of energy technologies and the importance of sustained public and technical input.
“As part of ongoing public engagement, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP, Minister of Home Affairs, recently addressed the policy on the Government of Bermuda’s Leaders on the Record podcast, outlining the need for reform and encouraging residents to actively participate in shaping Bermuda’s energy future.
“Public consultation on NESP 2026 closes on Wednesday, 21 May 2026. Written submissions continue to be accepted via forum.gov.bm.
“The Ministry has emphasised that engagement on the National Electricity Sector Policy will continue beyond the consultation period, with all contributions and proposals logged for consideration as the policy and supporting regulatory framework evolve.
“Decisions related to the regulatory framework and specific technologies for Bermuda’s electricity sector remain the statutory responsibility of the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda.
“Members of the public are encouraged to attend tomorrow’s meeting to learn more about the proposed policy direction and to share their views as part of this important national discussion.”
