Obama Signs Order Activating Spending Cuts

March 3, 2013

U.S President Barack Obama recently signed an order authorizing the American government to begin cutting $85 billion from federal accounts, officially enacting across-the-board spending reductions.

According to CBS News the U.S government says the reductions will soon result in furlough notices to government employees and will trim government spending on defense contracts and in domestic government programs.\

“In a sign of the potential impact, the Department of Justice sent furlough notices to employees that warned they may be forced to take days off without pay in coming months,” CNN reported.

CNN Money is predicting longer transit times in U.S. airports due to the cuts.” How about an extra hour to go through security? And, international travelers, brace for this — four hours to clear customs?,” they said.

“These are likely scenarios at the nation’s airports when the much-feared $85 billion of forced U.S. budget cuts hit in March. Many federal agencies — including those that handle airport security, customs, and air traffic control — will be forced to furlough employees, which means workers will have to stay away from their jobs for no pay for certain time periods over the next seven months.”

“Similarly, furloughs at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will lead to fewer inspectors to clear international passengers. That means it could take up to four hours to get through customs at the busiest airports such as Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport.”

This is a bunch of nonsense. There is no winner here.

American testicular fortitude wasn’t there to be the responsible adult in the room. They couldn’t even agree to cut a penny out of every spent dollar. Yet the powers that be in the US continue to ask their citizens to make sacrifices and do more with less, change their comfortable ways of life while the government refuses to lead by example.

We shall see if the sky really falls like Chicken Little has been warning about.

We need a freeze of governement expenses. We should only continue with essential spending. After all, if it’s not essential, why are we spending money on it? Our children are getting further in debt before they are even born…
