Teens Admit Stealing Bike, BB, Camera, Jacket

Yesterday [Apr 2] in Magistrates Court, two 18-year-olds pleaded guilty to charges involving theft and handling of stolen goods.

Ru-Jzarr Simmons and Jamie Cann together pleaded guilty to a first charge of taking a Suzuki motorcycle without the owner’s consent; and a second charge of stealing jewelry, a camera, a BB, a Helly Hansen jacket, and some cans of dog food that were under the bike seat. These actions occurred in January 2013, and the total value of everything was said to be over $5,o00.

Cann was separately charged with handling or receiving the jewelry items knowing them or believing them to be stolen. He pleaded guilty. Simmons was also separately charged with handling or receiving goods knowing them or believing them to be stolen. He also pleaded guilty.

The facts read out to Senior Magistrate Archie Warner were that Police were alerted to jewelry that had been tendered to a cash-for-gold buyer. Police had been called and their investigation led them to Cann.

A search of Cann’s room turned up other reported items and this search and questioning led to Simmons. A search of Simmons’ room to other items reported as stolen. Both men admitted their actions to Police.

Prosecutor Cindy Clarke suggested that a Social Inquiry Report would help in deciding sentence. Magistrate Archie Warner agreed, ordered a SIR, and set sentencing for May 2013.

Both men were granted bail of $2,000 and a surety each.
