  1. portuguese/bermudian says:

There is unauthorized use of government vehicles all the time. Former Government MPs picked up groceries and their children from school in GP cars all the time. So why you want to suspend this individual??? Give me a break…this country is all about who you know.

    • Amazed says:

The situation you describe involves MPs who had permission for the use of the car this individual did Not have permission so there is clearly a difference.

      • portuguese/bermudian says:

permission to use the cars for business, not pick up groceries, beach, pick up children from school, etc. For the other comments, I am not suggesting that just because former Government MP did it, it’s okay for present Government MP to do it. Not at all. But really, did this individual have to be suspended for 3 weeks – the punishment should fit the crime…then again you have the Premier’s sister who admits to a DUI and is not disqualified….

        • micro says:

If it was a private company I bet he would’ve been fired!
You can take that up with law writers, being disqualified from driving is not mandatory.

        • Sir George Somers says:

It wasn’t 3 weeks, it was reduced to 1 week!

  2. Hey says:

Probably there to get their money from their lost days pay

  3. ignorance says:

just because the former government did it doesnt mean its ok, give me a break! former govt also took millions of dollars from bermudians so i can do that now and its ok?? get some common sense

  4. Family Man says:

Are they working or meeting? Its hard to tell from the picture.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

Hard at work, as normal. Today they’re going to work a full day – the whole two and a half hours.

  5. Amazed says:

They pay union dues so that the union can fight these battles for them so why exactly are they off? It is very telling that there has not been a statement from Mr. President yet!!

    • Chickle says:

Exactly, any why if it is Urgent – can it wait until Tuesday. Why not do it over the weekend? In the past they have had last minute – drop your tool and go now – meetings, so why now does an urgent meeting , not mean urgent?

  6. Miguelito says:

I love the comedy. Here we go again. This union is beyond belief. “Your member brutha was unauthorized to be driving the vehicle. Okay…meeting over. You can all go. We’ve made our point (whatever it was).”

  7. Family Man says:

I notice its billed as an “URGENT” meeting – but no so urgent that they want to meet on the weekend.

    True to form for Bermuda.

    • Chickle says:

There most be a poker game on this weekend that I didn’t know about?

  8. Familiar says:

    Agenda: Matters of Importance.

This makes me think they assume that unless they state the matters are important that people will just assume anything they want to talk about is just frivilous nonesense.

  9. Sandy Bottom says:

So this is a non-urgent meeting about trivial sh1t.

  10. Nuffin but da Truth says:

    STRIKE!…go without…I dont care,not my pocket going without or Furbert’s pocket either…

  11. Um Um Like says:

    Love the photo!

    JUMP JUMP JUMP!!!

  12. wow. just wow says:

FIRE THEM ALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F****** LAZY BASTARDS ANYWAY

  13. Malachi says:

The first post on this blog is just another example of the ignorance that abounds.

What happens when an unauthorized driver gets in an accident? Typically, there is no insurance available.

Moreover, if an employee is not authorized to drive a company vehicle then he should be summarily dismissed if he or she does.

Why is it that some people believe that rules are for everybody else except them.

IIt seems that some government workers look for every opportunity to stay home from work.

  14. Mazumbo says:

It seems like there is a certain segment of people who have a serious problem with organized labor! Especially in Bermuda. From what I see around the world every country has issues with employers and employees.
Has anyone stopped to think why we have organized labor. It is because of (especially in Bermuda) the white Bermudian colonialsits or oligarchs.. which are still around today, the mistreatment of the West-Indian and Black Bermudian workers. Our forfathers paid a hefty price for workers rights ,better wages and benefits which most Bermudians and Non-Bermudians enjoy today. Now I believe management have a right to manage and the employee must work to the best of his/her ability for the betterment of the business, but there are times when things go array. That”s when dialouge takes place and there are procedures. So gone are the days of the OLIGARCHAL ways of dealing with matters( which some of you would still love to have) and dealing with them on a more civil level which our forfathers fought and gave their life for.
