“Education Coordinator Yesha Townsend, and The Chewstick Foundation’s Gavin Smith, will steward Tenae Hassell – 18, Makeem Bartley – 19, Marquedelle Rodriguez – 17, Dascha Choudhury – 15, Hannah Smith – 15, Kevina-Lorae Davis – 19, Grace Edwards – 19 and Kalaeb Tannock – 16, as they take part in the Brave New Voices Festival, where they will have the opportunity to connect with a global community of young poets, and strengthen their voices through workshops, performances and some healthy competition.

“ChewSLAM has been able to reach their financial goal through generous donations from The Bank of Bermuda Foundation, Bermuda Arts Council, John & Jean Campbell which all added to revenue generated through their fundraising events and personal efforts as well as a financially successful Beachfest Emancipation Celebration. Flying Colours’ was also able to provide shirts for the team in order that the youth can represent through a unified “Bermuda” look.

“The Brave New Voices Festival is an annual opportunity with a tremendous focus on the voice of the youth. ChewSLAM’s participation is a chance to represent Bermuda internationally while providing an opportunity for growth and development for this group of Bermuda teens.

“The community can support this year round program by contributing to the donation page on www.ptix.bm, supporting the indiegogo campaign http://igg.me/at/ChewslamBNV, inviting the group to perform at local events and taking notice of their future projects.

Wishing the ChewSLAM family safe travels and hoping that the airline doesn’t change it’s destination at the last minute and end up in a 3rd world country that they are not expecting. They could say it’s a fuel shortage or the airline lost a sponsor. Maybe it’ll still be alright though.
