Two Upcoming Events To Support Men’s Day

February 12, 2014

[Update] The “Why Me? Just Do It” forum has been postponed due to circumstances beyond the control of St. Paul AME Church and is currently awaiting a new date.

Two events planned for the coming week by St. Paul AME Church in Hamilton aim to support the work of Bermudian men via a celebration of Men’s Day.

The main event, currently postponed and awaiting a date, will be held at Centennial Hall in the St. Paul AME Church and will feature a forum titled “Why Me? Just Do It – Empowering a Generation of Black Men.”

The forum will include an inspiring panel, including the Reverend Nicholas Tweed, Colonel Edward Lamb, Commission of Corrections, and Chris Crumpler, the executive directory of Team Street Safe.

Besides interesting opinions and stories from the panel, the event will also include audience participation in the form of questions and comments throughout.

The second event, set to take place at St. Paul AME Church on Sunday, February 16 at 10.55am and 4.00pm, will be a simple commemeration of the occasion called “Men’s Day Celebration.”

This event will feature guest speaker Reverend Dr. Melvin E. Wilson, the presiding elder of the Brooklyn/Westchester District Lunch Fellowship, intoning on the theme of “Men, Go Forward – The Power is in Your Hands!”.

The St. Paul Church AME invites all Bermudians to take part in the “spirit of renewal and purpose” that the two events promise to create.

We get a day? Are you sure?

“Empowering a Generation of Black Men”

    Oh…never mind.

Celebrating them for what? With all these single mothers out here? All these sexual assaults and violence? Um no.

Black Men’s Day should be celebrated every single day–25 hours a day–8 days per week and 366 days per year! My message to Black men: Get your minds right–you’ll get your lives right. We Black women are waiting for you. As Baba John Henrik Clarke said: Beside every Black man should be a Black woman and vice versa. He further said that we are not your better half, we are your other half which makes the whole of us! Seriously think about what I’ve just shared.

Yours for love, peace, prosperity & survival of our people, universally!
