March 12, 2014

The Corporation of Hamilton announced the first recipients of plaques on the Walkway of Fame, with Stan “Lord Necktie” Seymour, Hilary Soares, Edwin Skinner, Hazel Christopher and Edith & Matilda Crawford set to be honoured.

The City said, “The objective is to create a walkway from Front Street along Court Street bringing residents and visitors into the area and to pay tribute to those who have made contributions to Bermuda as a whole. The Walkway will also encourage and increase commerce and encourage more activity on Court Street.

“Plaques will be installed in identified locations along Court Street to mark the contributions to Bermuda and her people made by the first honorees.

The first recipients are:-

  • Stan “Lord Necktie” Seymour
  • Hilary Soares
  • Edwin Skinner
  • Hazel Christopher
  • Edith & Matilda Crawford

The City said, “The honourees were all nominated by members of the public and a Selection Committee chose the honorees after points of criteria had been met for each nominee.

“Individuals, groups or associations who have positively impacted the lives of people in Bermuda through their professional or volunteer work and who lived in Bermuda made up the eligibility requirements. Anyone who has been acknowledged as a National Hero will automatically be put onto the Walkway of Fame list of nominees.

“The Corporation of Hamilton is currently installing the plaques in the identified locales along Court Street and a ceremony to celebrate the honourees will be held at City Hall in April.

The Corporation of Hamilton said they would like to thank the Organizing Committee as well as the Selection Committee for their roles in this very important initiative., and also thanks those members of the public who put forward the names of deserving nominees.

Mayor Graeme Outerbridge said, “The Corporation is grateful to the two committees for their diligence and role in overseeing the establishment of the Walk of Fame. We congratulate and honour the first recipients that are being recognized this year and look forward to growing the honour role in the years to come.”

Graeme, what’s going on with this conference of black mayors?? Do you support it? Is Donal bullying you? You haven’t said a word…

    • Sad says:

That’s because he honestly doesn’t know. He’s not the real mayor

  2. Family Man says:

Do the members of the “organizing committee” and the “selection committee” expect to be paid for their meetings?

  3. raptor says:

What do these people have to do with the City of Hamilton?

    • hmmm says:

I’m hoping they will tell us.

    • Davie Kerr says:

I don’t think it’s so much what they as individuals have to do with Hamilton: I think it’s more a case of a suitable way and place to honour some deserving Bermudians.

  4. Terry says:

    And why bloody Court Street.
    Hell freekin no……(aka Hello).
    I need a rum.

    • hmmm says:

TO expand the typical city paths walked for points of interest

    • Suzie Quattro says:

      Why Court Street?
Because while you’re down there looking at the walk of fame you can perhaps also buy an allegedly illegal lottery ticket.

      • Mazumbo says:

Lines up with the alleged bribe from ya leader. LMFAO

      • Raymond Ray says:

Or a taste of some (presently) illegal narcotic…Now all jokes aside, how can the City complain about lacking dollars but yet we see new work taking place on this so called, “walkway of fame” plus additional work taking place in front of City Hall?

  5. RawOnion says:

I’ve never heard of these people and I get out often.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Only two names that I recognise straight off.

      • Unbelievable says:

^ If there was ever a reason for something like this, it’s the two comments above.

I’m not a fan of the current City Hall situation but this is not a bad idea.

        • Suzie Quattro says:

I think the point of a ‘walk of fame’ is supposed to be to celebrate people that are already famous. A ‘walk of fame’ is not supposed to draw the public’s attention for the first time to people who have never been well-known.

    • frank says:

if you were a real onion you would know of them but you maybe just a transplanted onion

      • Suzie Quattro says:

        Define “real onion” then frank.

        Like we don’t know.

  6. Family Man says:

There’s a few people I’d like to nominate.

It would give me a sense of satisfaction to be able to take my dog along the walk and select their plaque for him to do his business on.

  7. Y-Gurl says:

I think we will remember more of the walkway of SHAME that leads to city hall

  8. jt says:

The walkway is a nice tribute but I think the claim that it will increase economic activity is exteremely optimisitc.

    • street wise says:

I only recognize one name, Stan, who definitely deserves to be honoured. I’m sure the other folks are worthy as well, but why would our visitors be interested in them?? Some photos of them would help….

  9. Triangle Drifter says:

Oh great now the folks on Court St will have some metal plaques to stomp their cigarettes out on, spit on, drop their chewing gum on & throw trash on.

Wonderful idea. A jewel in this COHs crown of achievements.

  10. PICO says:

would like to nominate Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, Alabama, Sir George Sommers,The Fairy Godmother, and of course The Right Worshipful and Honourable Mt G Outerbridge and the entire team. How the hell mill this generate business????????????????? other than for the company that makes the plaques.

  11. Mr. Meoff says:

The Great mayor (not) and his so called city engineers (not)need to focus on the terrible conditions of roads in our city. Reid Street is just appalling. My vans suspension along with every other motor vehicle that travels through our city should have our suspension replaced by the Corpation Of Hamilton. Come on guys, dont you experiance the ultra rough ride coming down Reid Street. Pay attention and do the simple things. Enough is enough already.

    • Seafarer. says:

more important to do part of front street that didn’t need it, go figure.

  12. Bermuda boy says:

Will Donal get a plaque for the group event he attended a while back?

  13. Young Bermudian says:

Encourage commerce and activity on Court Street! that is already the most profitable street on the island!!

  14. N.Blake Somner says:

I have to say. Positive incentives that will honor past and future icons of History.
    Future.Postive.Bermuda

    Peacock corp.

  15. Virginia says:

Reading these posts are disgusting!!!! To say that you don not know these individuals is a clear reflection that your heads are very much deep in the sand, and you do not know this community at all. Is it that these persons are not at your Yacht clubs or attended BHS???????? These persons are the individuals that took lead the charge for Julian Hall to take his 1st major case to the Privy Council so that all adopted children will be allowed to attend Public School in Bermuda. These are persons that were the longest sole proprietor business owners along Court Street. And yes Court Street is where they would want to be honoured. I guess you haven’t read the crime stats for the last 40 years, as more drug offenses occur in your neighborhoods than Court Street. These are persons that have founded community service organizations by mortgaging their homes to serve the persons you walk pass every day.

I am disguted by you ignorant people whom are so narrow minded and clearly uninformed about ALL of Bermuda. The differences are so apparent and I am sure that most of you will never have the Home-going Service that Mrs. Christopher had where they closed off 2 blocks to honour her.

You don’t deserve to rest in peace………….you devils!
