95 Students To Graduate From Bermuda College

May 12, 2014

Bermuda College will officially see 95 of its students graduate in commencement ceremonies scheduled for Thursday, May 15 at 2.30pm on the College field.

The College traditionally bestows the appropriate Associate Degree, Diploma and Certificate status on deserving students in the divisions of Applied Science & Technology, Business Administration and Hospitality, and Liberal Arts.

Ceremonies also feature graduates of the College’s partnership with Mount Saint Vincent University baccalaureate degree programme in Business Administration and Child and Youth Studies.

This year, Associate Professor in Business and Tourism Dr. Sandi Findlay-Thompson is on the island to bestow baccalaureate degrees on 15 graduates of the university’s Business Administration and Applied Arts [Child & Youth Studies] programmes.

“Bermuda College President Dr. Duranda Greene noted that the May commencement ceremonies always represent the pinnacle of the academic year for faculty, staff and graduating students.

Dr. Greene said, “We continue to be committed to providing our students with every possible stepping stone on their path to success – whether success in transferable credits to overseas colleges and universities, or to the next level of their chosen career.”

This year, the College will see a mother and son graduating together, and a graduate from the Actuarial Science associate degree programme successfully transfer her Bermuda College credits to the third or junior year at Georgia State University, earning her in-state tuition fees.

The College will close at 1.00pm for the ceremonies. All evening classes will be held as scheduled.

While noting who, where and what many graduating students will do next, can the College give a breakdown on how many students intend to pursue their their four-year degrees are financially able to do so? How many will need funding and how many will successfully get it, in order to continue their academic pursuits?

Bermuda College is a rich source of information regarding the student body and how it can be a force in helping to shape policy in higher education. A serious review of the graduating students and their financial needs may give the MoE the opportunity to spot trends and glean other pertinent information on higher education in Bermuda.

Has the Bermuda College given thought, in earnest, to it becoming a second campus of a larger notably prestigious university, to attain four-year degrees, on island?
