    MOTORCYCLE COUNTER STEERING

Let us assume that you are Riding a standard Motor cycle or scooter with the exception of the Vespa scooter which has an entirely different “trailing link” steering geometry.

You are about to negotiate a corner at a reasonable speed.

Contrary to popular belief you can not steer a motorcycle around corners as you would a car.

For this exercise let us assume that you are about to negotiate a left turn, it is normal to lean the Motor over directly proportional to the direction of the corner, the motor will change direction and will continue to do so, unless you make the necessary adjustment which is referred to as “Counter Steering” you will run off the road.

However many of you could unknowingly practicing this delicate “Counter Steering” skill.

An easy way to accomplish this which takes practice.
Negotiate Left corners with more emphasis using the left hand.
Negotiate Right corners with right emphasis using the right hand.

There are other riding skills which will assist you.

“WHERE YOU LOOK YOU WILL GO” Meaning you will unconsciously travel in the direction of your gaze.

Unfortunately if you train you eyes on a B.E.L.C.o pole while riding I guarantee you will hit it.

Riding a motorcycle requires no less than 100 % concentration on the job at hand.

Always look as far ahead as possible.

Assess the corner conditions before you approach it.

    Reduce speed before corners.

The life you save may be your own.
