Film Series To Feature Alive Inside & Boyhood

November 12, 2014

A joyous documentary that won an audience prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and a feature film that is the critics’ top pick of the year, will screen at the Weekend Film Series, sponsored by Gosling’s, on Sunday November 16.

Screening at 3 p.m., Alive Inside – winner of an Audience Choice award at Sundance in January – is an uplifting cinematic exploration of music and the mind. The film chronicles the astonishing experiences of individuals who have been revitalised through the simple experience of listening to their favourite music.

Revealing how music’s healing power can triumph where prescription medication falls short, the film follows Dan Cohen – founder of the non-profit organisation Music & Memory – as he fights against a broken health care system to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss and restore a deep sense of self to those suffering from it.

After the film, Elizabeth Stewart – President of Action on Alzheimer’s and Dementia — will participate in a Q and A session.

Screening at 5.15 p.m., Boyhood is the highest ranked feature film of 2014 by film critics on Rottentomatoes.com. Director Richard Linklater’s epic film was shot over a period of 12 years with the same cast.

The film is the groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason [a breakthrough performance by Ellar Coltrane], who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason’s parents, and Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, Boyhood charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. The film is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting.

The film has won 10 international film festival awards.

Tickets are on sale now at the Oceans Gift Shop, BUEI, or by calling 294-0204. The ‘Weekend Film Series’, sponsored by Gosling’s, is a joint production of Bermuda Documentary Film Festival director Duncan Hall and the BUEI.
