Court: Two Men Given Discharges After Fight

June 17, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [June 17], two young men, 21 and 22, were both given Conditional Discharges after pleading guilty to fighting in a public place, Admiralty House Park, on 15th June 2015. Both men had been arrested on the day.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that police had been called to a fight scene at Admiralty House.

Police intervened and had to use a Tazer to subdue the younger man. However the older man ran away. Police also had to use Raptor spray on a crowd that sought to interfere with their police actions.

The older man, who had run away, soon turned himself in and both men were taken off to Hamilton Police Station, where they were kept until this morning.

Questioned by the Magistrate, the older man told the Magistrate that the fight was over a gold chain. Both men apologized for their actions, said that their imbibing of alcohol played a part, and both said that they had learned a lesson.

The Magistrate said that in the circumstances, he would grant a twelve month Conditional Discharge.
