Photos: Granaway Deep Fitted Dinghy Racing
The 2015 Bermuda Fitted Dinghy Racing Season continued with three races in Granaway Deep this past weekend.
Contest III won the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club Cup race, while Elizabeth II won the Whitney Cup race, and Challenger II was the only boat to finish the Trott Cup race.
The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club Cup race saw Contest III place first, Elizabeth II place second, Challenger II place third, and Victory IV place fourth. In the Whitney Cup race, Elizabeth II placed first, Challenger II placed second, Contest III placed third, and Victory IV placed fourth.
In the Trott Cup race, Challenger II placed first, while Contest III sunk, Elizabeth II retired, and Victory IV did not finish.

In my opinion, fitted dinghy racing is far more exciting than the America’s Cup. Although the America’s Cup is about innovation and transforming the sport and art of yachtin, I am a stickler for tradition. As Commodore of BBIRYC, I think I will commission somebody to build me a fleet of fitted dinghies, hire the best crews and win all of these races. At BBIRYC we already have the best bailer, that being Vice Commodore Double Seven Single Niner.
Good luck with that. Would be interesting racing against more than 3 other boats.
Ahoy to my fellow mariners from Las Vegas. For once I must disagree with The Commodore as I clearly am the chief bailer of the club nowadays. Apart from a rare appearance at non mariners I have been absent from events, meeting and other social functions. Unfortunately this is unlikely to change for about ten years but I will always cherish the special moments I enjoyed as a member of the still exclusive BBIRYC.
