Court: Man Pleads Guilty To Multiple Offences

August 11, 2016

Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 45-year-old man was granted bail after pleading guilty to a number of offences, with the Court hearing that Jason Liburd took a motorcycle without the owner’s consent, used offensive words to police and entered two Victoria Street establishments, stealing Gatorade and toilet paper from one of them.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that fingerprints and CCTV footage led the Police to Liburd. Police caught up with Liburd on Brunswick Street while he was still pushing the stolen cycle. On noticing police, Liburd quickly put the cycle on its stand and then attempted to run away, but was quickly caught. Once in police custody, Liburd said to police: “You are a big p—y. You are all fake. You are a big a— black man.”

Taking note of the Crown Prosecutor’s information that Liburd had similar offences, the Magistrate ordered a Social Inquiry Report, granted bail at $3,000, and ordered Liburd to report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Liburd’s sentencing was set for late September.
