[Updated with video] The 2016 World Rugby Classic continued last night  [Nov 7] at the National Sports Center with a double header that saw Argentina defeat the United States 33 – 14, while the second game saw New Zealand defeat France 14 – 7.

Argentina 33 United States 14

Argentina advanced to the Classic Semi-Finals following their 33-14 win over the United States at the windswept National Sports Center.

Argentina took the lead with 22:30 on the clock when Lucas Borges went over for a try, but the conversion was missed leaving the score at 5 – 0, the lead was doubled with 7:20 remaining on the clock with Nicolas Bruzzone went over, and when Santiago Van Der Ghotte kicked the conversion it took the Argentina lead to 12 – 0. With three minutes remaining in the half Argentina move to 17 – 0 with Federico Serra going over for a try, Van Der Ghotte added the conversion making it 19 – 0.

Two minutes into the second half Argentina went up 26 – 0 with a try from Van Der Ghotte and he added the conversion. USA got on the scoreboard with 20 minutes on the clock with Fred Wintermantel going over and Mathieu Lesgourgues kicked a conversion to make it 26 – 7.

With 13 minutes remaining Argentina would put the game out over reach when German Villmail went over for a try, while Van Der Ghotte added the conversion making it 33 – 7, but USA would score again when Luis Tulio went over for a try and the conversion was good making the final score 33 – 14.

New Zealand 14 France 7

This match went later than anticipated for a few reasons, firstly there was a stoppage of some ten minutes as medics attended to France’s Alexandre Audebert who  taken off the field on a stretcher. Minutes after this took place, and with only minutes remaining in the first half, it started to rain, sending the crowd looking for shelter, with the players and officials remaining on the field.

Earlier in the match New Zealand had taken a 7 – 0 lead when Seilala Mapusua went over for a try and William Walker kicked the conversion. With the rain hammering down, New Zealand doubled their lead when Paul Miller went over and Walker kicked the extras making it 14 – 0.

France scored the lone try of the second half as Romuald Moreau went over for a try and Andre Hough kicked the conversion making the final score 14 – 7 with New Zealand advancing to the Classic Semi-Final.
