Allied World Family Community Day On April 30
The Centre on Philanthropy is inviting the entire community out for an afternoon of ‘fun, games and volunteerism’ at the Allied World Family Community Day in Victoria Park, Hamilton this Sunday, April 30 from 1pm until 5pm.
The event, currently in its sixth year, has been generously sponsored by Allied World Assurance Company since 2014.
According to Elaine Butterfield, Executive Director of the Centre on Philanthropy, this is a great opportunity for families to learn more about charities on the Island and their various services, while also having a great time.
Students can earn up to two community service hours for participating in activities; while people of all ages can learn the value of compassion and community awareness through volunteerism.
“This year we have more than 20 charitable organisations coming out to share information about who they are and what they do,” Mrs. Butterfield explained. “Some will have activities set up, which families can participate in on the spot to show their support. Should the weather be inclement, the event will be moved to The Bullshead Car Park.
“The Centre on Philanthropy exists to serve non-profits and through the generous sponsorship of Allied World this is an excellent opportunity for families to get together, give back and enjoy themselves as well.”
There will be lunch, all kinds of games and goodies on offer, as well as wonderful family entertainment.
Mike McCrimmon, Head of Allied World Bermuda & President, North American Property, said: “On behalf of Allied World’s charity committee, we are honoured to be able to contribute and support an event like this that creates awareness around the needs in our community. We hope that it will make an impact and a difference.
“We are optimistic many will come out to experience the event, and join the charities, the Centre’s staff and our staff and families. It’s a wonderful family event with lots of activities for children.”
Allied World first sponsored the family-friendly event four years ago. They liked the idea of providing a space for various Bermuda charities to come together and interact with the public.
Mr. McCrimmon said their hope from day one was that the event would spark a greater interest in volunteering for charities within the community, especially by families.
“We also saw this as an opportunity to encourage our staff and their families to participate,” he said.
If the weather cooperates, Sunday’s event will provide families the chance to get outside and enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of Victoria Park. All activities throughout the day will be free of charge.
