Video: Sunday Aug 19th ‘Good News’ Spotlight
There was no shortage of good news this week, especially in the athletic genre, with Christian Ebbin winning the British Sailing Nationals, a motorcade welcoming home Bermuda’s championship-winning football team, Antonio Warner winning his division at the COTECC Junior Tennis Tournament in St. Lucia, and Zeiko Lewis scoring for HK Kopavogur in Iceland.
In additional good news, Dage Minors earned all-academic honours, Arantxa King was elected as chairperson of the NACAC Athletes Commission, Sean Trott won the Run Through Hyde Park 10K in England, Lisa Blackburn won her age group at the Sprint Triathlon, Adam Hall hit a home run in Minor League Baseball and Jyire Mitchell won his class at the Walton TransCan Grand National Championship Motocross in Canada.
The Bermuda Festival appointing Gita Blakeney Saltus as Deputy Chair of their Board, young Bermudian singer Terron Webb winning the Nevis Junior Calypso Competition, Roger Lee earning a trial with a professional Estonian football team, and Bermuda winning gold in the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships were also some of the positive news stories from the past week.
Other good news stories included the Generation Next Youth Movement Series featuring entrepreneur Kelsea Williams, Alex Doyling being awarded a university scholarship, and the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda awarding scholarships to Rhianna Evelyn, MeShalae Hayward-Furquan, Ravi Cannonier-Watson, Taylor Railton, Alexis Smith, and Jada Pearman,
We also posted various community photo galleries, including coverage of the BFA Corporate Beach Soccer , Corona Coed Beach Volleyball, the Around the Island Powerboat Race, weekend cricket action, and Summer Sunday at Victoria Park.
