‘Bermuda Wears Red’ Anti-Violence Campaign
YouthVision Promotions is urging Bermudians to participate in the ‘Bermuda Wears Red’ anti-violence campaign day on Monday, January 21st, saying it “would be amazing if, even for one day, we can see a sea of red, which highlights the seriousness and the courage of our community as a whole.”
Desmond Crockwell said, “On behalf of YouthVision Promotions, we are encouraging every Bermudian to participate in the Bermuda Wears Red anti-violence campaign day.
“The day of the campaign is scheduled for Monday, January 21, 2019. This is the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, which is the perfect day for us as individuals to promote peace in our own island, parish, neighborhood.
“As a community, it is important that we promote peace, if we want to see peace. We are asking our parents, neighbors, schools, clergy, politicians, private and civil servants to wear your red.
“As a community focused business, we believe that everyone is a community worker. Every Bermudian is a part of the solution, and it would be amazing if, even for one day, we can see a sea of red, which highlights the seriousness and the courage of our community as a whole.
“I believe that most, if not all of us, are on the same page, when it comes to wanting to see an end to the killing of our young men, so this would be a perfect opportunity to collectively show them that we care as a country. People often ask how they can help and what they can do, so this is an opportunity to send a subliminal message that they care about our country.
“To our young men who believe that killing the next brother is is a feel good factor, I ask you to reflect on the funerals that you have attended of your own street brothers, and the looks on the mother’s and father’s faces of your own friends, and the lady you call “Auntie or Moms” or the man you call “Uncle or Pops”.
“I ask that you show your commitment by wearing your red, and start the process of change. Be honest to yourself and to your real friends and family and do something better with your life. Just start the process, and the rest will follow.”
