Jan 26: Caledonian Society Annual Burns Supper
The Caledonian Society of Bermuda held its first Burns Supper in January 1937 and has done so every year since, with this year’s 82nd annual event set to take place on Saturday, January 26 at the Mariner’s Club on Richmond Road in Pembroke.
A spokesperson said, “Robert [Rabbie] Burns was born on the 25th January 1759 and became, and remains, one of Scotland’s most celebrated poets. Often described as Scotland’s National Bard, Burns’ life and works are celebrated at this time of year at similar events all over the world.
“The Supper is open to anyone who enjoys an evening of convivial company, entertaining speeches and Scottish fare. To add to this year’s event, during the cocktail reception there will be a demonstration of Scottish dancing by members of the Bermuda Highland Dancers, and Bacardi Ltd is very generously providing a tasting of three different Scottish Single Malt whiskies.
“With entertaining speeches by Ian Cummings, Ian Hind, Evelyn MacGregor and Peter Profit, singing led by Kirsten Cairns, and a wee Ceilidh thrown in at the end of the formal evening, a good time is guaranteed for all.
“Tickets are $95 from Ian Hind at ihind@cityhall.bm or 334-9627.”
