Condolences Expressed After Tragic Plane Crash

Condolences are being expressed for local resident Paul Njoroge whose family were tragically killed in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash, with Mr Njoroge’s wife, three small children and mother in law all on the flight that crashed on Sunday.

The Ethiopian Airlines jet crashed shortly after take-off from Addis Ababa, killing all on board. The airline said 149 passengers and eight crew members were on the flight from the Ethiopian capital to Nairobi in Kenya.

On behalf of the African Community in Bermuda, a spokesperson said that it is, with profound grief, they confirm the “passing of family members of our Kenyan brother Paul Njoroge in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash that occurred on Sunday 10 March in Ethiopia.

“Paul lost his his wife Caroline Karanja and 3 children, 7-year-old son Ryan Njoroge Njuguna, 4-year-old daughter Kerry Paul Wanjiku Njuguna, 7-month-old daughter Rubi Wangui Njuguna. He also lost his mother-in-law Ann Wangui Karanja. All were Kenyan.

“Paul is an Investment Manager with Butterfield Wealth Management and fellowships at the Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church.

“We wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the expression of condolences and outpouring of support for our brother at this unfortunate time in his life. We particularly appreciate Premier the Honorable David Burt JP MP and his Government who through the Ministers of National Security and Finance visited Paul at his home yesterday.

“We are deeply heartened at the incredible level of support and concern Paul’s employers Butterfield Bank have extended to him. They worked with us through the night and this morning to ensure his travel back home to Kenya could be as smooth and worry-free for him as possible.

“Recognising the loving nature of the Bermudian people, we will open a condolence book to the public at the offices of the Honorary Consulate of Ghana at Suite 6, 129 Front Street, Hamilton on Tuesday 12 March to Friday 15 March 2019 – noon – 2pm, and from Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March 2019 noon – 2pm.”
