BTUC Express Condolences To Simmons Family

April 12, 2019

Bermuda Trade Union Congress [BTUC] expressed their sincere condolences to the family of Leroy Simmons, saying that “Bermuda has lost one of its shining stars.”

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Trade Union Congress [BTUC] wishes to express its sincere condolences to the wife and family of Brother Leroy Simmons.

“Bermuda has lost one of its shining stars- Brother Leroy was a staunch trade unionist. He was a musician’s musician. He believed that everyone could and should be allowed to be successful. He sought to elevate those around him.

“When there was injustice, he fought to right the wrong, as in the case of the removal of the dues that visiting artists should pay. The “travelling dues” were removed by the OBA government. Brother Leroy waged a never-ending battle until they were restored by the present government.

“His Sunday gospel show, Get Your Praise On will be sorely missed. Brother Leroy also shared his love for music as he was finally successful in being certified to teach in the public-school system. His students will sorely miss love and enthusiasm for his subject.

“The BTUC plans to dedicate this year’s May Day’s celebration in honor of our friend, fellow trade unionist, and brother.

“May He Rest in Peace.”
