The film has also been selected for the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, Lift Off Sessions, ‘Best Shorts’ Competition and was shortlisted for the Ocean Film Festival.
The film features local personalities Dr. Thad Murdoch, founder of the BREAM project, Choy Aming, an associate of the Bermuda Shark Project, and longtime fisherman, William “Billie” McCallan.
The film’s description states, “Bermuda has always been associated with disappearances. But those were just modern myths. In the last 40 years, the island has seen a drastic decline in its top predator.
”Requiem investigates the disappearance of sharks from the island’s waters. Alex Godfrey goes on a personal journey to find out what has happened and what it means for the island’s reefs.”
Mr Godfrey was born and raised in Bermuda, and attended Saltus, BHS and Loughborough University before joining Chubb Tempest Re in Bermuda as a catastrophe modeler.
After obtaining his CPCU designation, he decided to follow his dreams and was accepted on to the University of the West of England’s prestigious MA in Wildlife Filmmaking.
Requiem, shot in Bermuda during the summer of 2018, was his dissertation, and he is now currently working on wildlife documentary productions with a leading production company in Bristol, UK.
Update: According to the Festival’s website, Requiem won the Environmental Award.
