September 5, 2020

Firefighters extinguished a fire on South Shore near Elbow Beach after a part of the device on a utility pole burned out and dropped into some bush below.

A BFRS spokesperson said, “At 1:11pm, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service dispatch received a report of a BELCO pole on fire at South Shore near Elbow Beach. The BFRS responded with one appliance from Hamilton Fire Station and a total of four firefighters.

“On arrival fire crews saw a transformer attached to the electric pole smoking and brush under the pole on fire. After investigating the fire, fire crews determined that the cause was the fuse from the transformer had burned out and dropped into some dry bush under the pole causing it to burn.”

      I agree.
Not too long ago I noticed an upper level belco pole fire that no-one else had seen . It is scary because you just don’t know what’s going to happen next with possibilities like live wires falling down or a transformer explosion.
When I reported it they were most appreciative and got on it very quickly.
